Job Description

We are a 120-bed not-for-profit nursing facility offering advanced healthcare while providing skilled nursing and rehabilitative services for both long and short term residents. Located on eight beautiful landscaped acres, we also provide sub-acute services, wound care and respite services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A current New York State licensed Registered Professional Nurse who possesses a Registered Professional Nursing degree from an accredited college’s school of nursing program. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Two years of clinical nursing experience and one year geriatric experience strongly preferred. Demonstrated leadership ability in nursing practice in a Long-Term Care setting for a minimum of three years. Must possess and maintain all necessary certifications for CPR/BLS/Licensure and other certifications. Must attend in-services as required by this Center. Knowledge of MDS and care plan. Some computer skills required.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:

Staff Development/In-Service: You will be required to direct all activities towards the fulfillment of the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Center. This integral role provides support to the Director and Assistant Director of Nursing/Designee. The planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating of the staff development/in-services and their related IT training related to both clinical and documentation programs are to be maintained for compliance.

House Supervision: As scheduled and determined by Center needs. The nursing supervisor provides direct supervision, management, support, and leadership for nursing personnel to perform total quality resident care. Coordinates the nursing staff and assists in the accomplishment of nursing tasks in compliance with the established philosophies, objectives, policies, and procedures of the Center. The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for the administration of the Nursing Department in the absence of the Director of Nursing Services and Assistant Director of Nursing Services. The nursing supervisor is responsible for Center operations during the evening and night shifts and provides guidance and directives to other department personnel as needed and may perform unrelated duties as requested during periods of emergency or unusual activity.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Coordinates and directs the operations of clinical units in the Nursing Department for the respective shift.

2. Assures that all units are staffed appropriately according to established guidelines and covers staffing using the available resources.

3. Provides for maximum utilization of staff to insure optimal delivery of resident care.

4. Ensures appropriate current licensure of both Center and NYS required certifications, qualifications and staff development of agency/Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Nurses Aides.

5. Ensures that all charting is competed prior to ANY nursing personnel leaving the unit at the end of the shift including all accident and incident report.

6. Supervises, evaluates, counsels and disciplines personnel on assigned shift.

7. Prepares and submits written documentation to the Director of Nursing Services on personnel’s performance and any disciplinary action for conduct contrary to facilities policies.

8. Assist in orientation and on-the-job training of new employees. Conducts in-service as needed and staff meetings on assigned shift on a regular basis.

9. Supervises and instructs all nursing personnel on all new procedures, policies, treatments and equipment.

10. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of nursing practice standards and personnel policies.

11. Provides a report of all pertinent activities, problems and resolutions occurring during the shift to the Director of Nursing Services.

12. Advises and assists Nurse Manager in the organization and management of the Clinical Nursing Unit.

13. Initiates I.V. infusions, and assists nurses with other technical procedures when necessary.

14. Assists in performing quality assurance studies and compiles other reports and information as requested.

15. Demonstrates knowledge, respect and sensitivity of resident’s rights as identified within the Resident Bill of Rights and Center policy and mission statement. Assures confidentiality of all resident information.

16. Maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education and other appropriate learning experience.

17. Attends in-service education & certification courses as required by position title.

18. Performs related duties as required.

19. As part of management team, attends management meetings and other committees as directed by the Administrator, Director of Nursing or Designee.
