Position Purpose: The staff nurse is responsible for coordinating the total nursing care to an assigned group of patients providing the professional leadership necessary to develop, implement, and evaluate the plan of care. In accordance with the Missouri Nurse Practice Act and Capital Region Medical Center's policies and standards, the staff nurse assumes the role of leader, educator, preceptor, caregiver, and/or supervisor in the provision of nursing care.


Principal Accountabilities and Essential Duties of the Job:


FINANCIAL

  • Maintains fiscal responsibilities utilizing sound principles
    • Demonstrates a sense of cost consciousness by monitoring supply usage/waste, environment, and time management
    • Demonstrates assessment competency and documents according to policy
    • Demonstrates the ability to effectively manage care of patients
    • Completes shift activities in allotted time frame

GROWTH

  • Supports patient care processes to sustain growth and meet strategic plan goals
    • Collaborates with support disciplines to arrange services and plan for discharge, beginning at admission
    • Contributes to the development and maintenance of a team environment within the medical center
    • Maintains cooperative relationships with external agencies

PEOPLE

  • Communicates and collaborates with team regarding patient’s status, needs, goals, and desired outcome
    • Monitors, participates in, and evaluates patient care
    • Rounds frequently to identify and address patient’s needs/concerns
    • Collaborates with other team members regarding any plan of care modifications
    • Participates in multi-disciplinary review and evaluations
    • Communicates verbally or written an change in a patient’s condition as well as individual notifications
    • Conducts self in professional manner and positively represents Capital Region Medical Center to patients, family, and the public
    • Collaborates with health care team and provides education to patient and family and documents teaching
    • Is sensitive to and aware of other’s feelings, using appropriate tone of voice when communicating

    • Manages physician orders according to policy
    • Updates plan of care each shift and as needed
    • Demonstrates the skill level to manage care of patients and handle emergency situations in a professional manner
    • Administers and documents medications, IV’s, according to policy
    • Consults with other disciplines and arranges services as needed
    • Performs complete admission assessment
    • Documents accurate and ongoing assessments of patient status
