Job Description
Department Overview: Five ambulatory oncology infusion rooms located in the Portland metro area. Chair/bed number ranges from 10-15 depending on site. Provide care to both Oncology and non-Oncology patients. Open 7 days a week including holidays and weekends.
Function/Duties of Position: The OHSU Clinical registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations. The Clinical RN's care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics. The Clinical RN demonstrates the professional role obligations of scientist, leader, and knowledge transferor [Onsomble Model of the Professional Role™]. Professional accountability enriches the Clinical RN's engagement as a leader in promoting an inter-professional culture of collaborative decision-making, innovation, life-long learning, and teamwork.   • Work in a shared and collaborative infusion space.
  • Ability to alternate between various work sites, depending on the practices’ space allocation, division of daily work activities, etc.
  • Rotate into other assignments (conditional based on appropriate training) such as OLC, triage and charge nurse
Required Qualifications:Department Specific Requirements (competencies, equipment, certifications, etc.):
  • Completion of ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy administration certification during orientation.
  • Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English.
  • Navigate information technology associated with the position.
  • Use Electronic Health Record information and associated tools.
  • Record, track and assign duties and processes to ensure appropriate billing and revenue generation, when applicable.
  • Facilitate care coordination with other providers and services to complement ambulatory Oncology care and meet holistic needs of the patient and family.
  • ADN acceptable if RN meets all other preferred candidate qualifications (2+ years Oncology with 5+ years nursing, OCN)
  • BSN from an accredited school required for all External Applicants.
  • BSN preferred for all current OHSU Employees.
Preferred Qualifications:Department Specific Preferences (competencies, certifications, etc.):
  • ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Card.
  • Recent Experience working in ambulatory Hematology/Oncology preferred.
    • Recent Experience working in inpatient Oncology.
  • IV access proficiency. Experience working with Central Lines, Port-a-cath.

  • New Grads: N/A
  • Specialty Experience: 4 – 6 weeks
  • Experience, but not in specialty area: 6-8 weeks

Physical Demands/Working Conditions & Equipment Usage:
  • Constant exposure to usual hospital environmental conditions including possible exposure to blood and body fluids.*
  • The work environment carries risk of exposure to human tissue/fluids and radiation.*
  • Ability to lift, stand, sit, bend, stoop, reach, carry, push, pull and walk throughout the work period.
  • Able to lift 35 lbs independently.
  • Comply with the safe patient mobilization policy when lifting or positioning dependent patients, including using mechanical lifts and coordinating the assistance of other personnel.
  • Must be able to use all senses: seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, and speaking. Reasonable accommodations include corrective lenses and/or hearing aids.
  • Must be able to deal with competing needs and priorities of internal and external customers, including making correct judgments regarding ensuring safe conditions for patients, families, and other personnel.
  • Use of all hospital approved clinical equipment. Significant use of computers, copier, multi-line phones, and fax.
