Job Description
  • The Retail Design Manager oversees the integrity of all design concepts and manages both internal and external staff to ensure best creative solutions and brand continuity between concepts. This also includes reviews with Division and Regional Managers for full buy-in on changes

Key Responsibilities:

The role requires a thorough understanding and passion for architectural and visual design that pushes the envelope in traditional retail, retail banking and hospitality sectors. The primary objective of the Retail Design Manager is to drive concepts and solutions that support and elevate the Citi brand and client experience. Your foundation will be deeply rooted in managing brand standards, retail store planning principles, project programming and why/how they support the operating model and business strategy. You will be focused on directing design that brings the vision to life while working within the guardrails of schedule, budget, code and jurisdictional requirements.

  • Directs the development, evolution and continuous improvement of all Citi retail formats.
  • Expertly directs internal and external resources on design direction for new and existing concepts.
  • Directs and/or prepares presentation level drawings, renderings and further developed technical solutions to create design intent packages to drive design and innovation for unique projects.
  • Provides clear, effective and timely communication for design direction and changes. Identifies exceptions and proposes creative design solutions.
  • Communicates complex information into simple and clear terms for internal stakeholders and execution team to drive progress.
  • Directs the development of schematic design, design development and construction documents as prepared by architects; you will review/approve both design and highly technical documents.
  • Builds strong working relationships with both internal and external business partners and continually influences others in elevating the brand.
  • Directs design and technical updates for details and specifications to tighten and strengthen the various retail and client facing design formats.
  • Directs and leads project walks with senior management, stakeholders and project managers to steer the design approach. Provides insightful recommendation and influences the outcome of projects at an early stage, including real estate selection.
  • Proactively seeks design and innovation ideas; has a pulse on current financial, retail and hospitality trends. Leverage trends and inspiration in developing compelling design direction.
  • Develops presentation level documents that speak to design strategy, innovation and trends.
Job Skills/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or Interior Design
  • Demonstration of design problem-solving skills.
  • Proven understanding of expert level retail space planning principles, including baseline ADA and building code.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills. Can translate complicated design and technical information for others to understand.
  • Team player with ability to handle strong personalities at all levels of the company. Deep experience and ease in interfacing with senior management.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to change and to support evolving business strategy and goals.
  • Ability to translate stated design principles/objectives into unique and varied design formats.
  • Demonstration of 3D visualization ability and expert knowledge and application of color and design principles.
  • Proven knowledge of building product specifications, manufacturers, vendors and design resources.
  • Technical proficiency in AutoCAD/Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office and 3D programs.
  • Minimum 10 years of consecutive professional experience in retail or hospitality design.
  • Minimum 10 years as a retail designer within a project team.
  • Hands-on experience at an active construction site, including punch listing projects, reviewing mock-ups/shop drawings and providing immediate feedback.
  • Experience working on LEED projects. LEED certification is a plus.
  • Able to work independently in a corporate environment.
  • Experience working on the owner side.
