GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

Our laboratory within the Center for Integrative Pain NeuroImaging (CiPNI, http://scholar.harvard.edu/cipni) focuses on understanding the neurobiological mechanisms of chronic pain, its influence on autonomic nervous system activity, and its treatment by different non-pharmacological therapies, including cognitive behavioral therapy and acupuncture. This position will involve the application of state-of-the-art fMRI and EEG imaging methods in conjunction with autonomic monitoring under the supervision of Lab Director, Dr. Vitaly Napadow. Responsibilities will involve acquiring and analyzing data, administrative coordination, and working with different chronic pain patient populations.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The responsibilities of the Research Technician are varied and involve coordinating study visits to the Martinos Center.
  • Candidate will also be in communication with co-investigators and other lab personnel.
  • Other duties will be performing MRI scanning and behavioral/pain testing on chronic pain patients and healthy controls.
  • Assisting with data quality assurance, and analysis of physiological and brain imaging data.
  • Managing the Internal Review Board human subjects’ protocol for the study.
  • The position offers opportunities to participate in publications and to be part of a fast-paced research environment at the intersection of clinical research and neuroimaging method development.
  • Responsible for maintaining the laboratory notebook.
  • Conduct analysis of results and interpret.
  • Set up/prepare routine experiments as directed by PI.
  • Assist with the organization of materials for publication and presentations.
  • Maintain supply inventory and supply orders.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills and able to maintain accurate records
  • Proficiency in computer skills, with preferred experience with coding with MATLAB, R, python, or other
  • High degree of professionalism and ability to interact with study population, as well as a large, multi-disciplinary team of collaborators, is key.
  • Working knowledge of research protocols
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated discretion dealing with confidential information
  • Preferable experience in MRI scanning and/or behavioral testing

EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Required: 0-1 year

  • Preferred: A year or more of experience working in a neuroimaging research lab.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The position involves working at a computer or at an MRI scanner with human subjects. Fexibility to perform scans on weekends, depending on subject and scanner availability is required.
