DESCRIPTION

The Center on Gender Equity and Health is within the Division of Infectious Diseases and Global Public Health in the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) aims to conduct high-caliber research on health-related issues and service utilization facing populations in international settings, U.S. minorities and migrants to the U.S. Within the Division, the Center on Gender Equity and Health (GEH) focuses on conducting innovative global public health research, medical and academic training, and development and evaluation of evidence-based policies and practices to reduce gender inequities and gender-based violence and their negative impact on health and wellbeing. This position provides project coordination support for GEH and its principal investigators and project managers.

Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and the Research Project Manager and PI, the Research Project Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and execution of research studies focused on gender-based violence and other gender inequities, and how these inequities relate to maternal/child health and reproductive health in the US and in international settings. Current projects are based in West and East Africa as well as California. Responsibilities include coordination and close monitoring of research projects from the San Diego office. The incumbent will be responsible for data-related tasks (management, cleaning, organization, descriptive analyses), and editing/writing related to project deliverables (including but not limited to research reports, manuscripts, protocols, and funding proposals).

The Research Project Coordinator will also be responsible for assisting with monitoring the progress of project deliverables and study implementation. Regular, professional communication with project teams and research partner organizations is expected. This position may require local, domestic or international travel with Principal Investigators and/or Research Project Manager to visit study sites and/or study partners for the purposes of planning, data collection and/or dissemination. Research Project Coordinator will have strong knowledge of research methods. The incumbent will use research skills and apply organization policies and procedures to resolve a variety of simple to moderately complex issues.

MININUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong working proficiency in French. Fluent in French (written and verbal).

  • Six (6) years of public health field research experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area and two (2) or more years of relevant experience/education.

  • Knowledge of Public Health research methods in the area of Social and Behavioral sciences, with special interest/expertise in gender-based violence, gender equity, material and child health, or sexual and reproductive health.

  • Prior experience as research assistant or coordinator on social and/or behavioral science research studies in the areas of gender-based violence or other gender inequities, sexual and reproductive health, or maternal and child health.

  • Working knowledge and experience with data collection activities.

  • Working knowledge of the design and implementation of data collection procedures and protocols.

  • Intermediate to strong statistical analysis skills required at this level.

  • Demonstrated experience with report preparation for funders or partners.

  • Proven experience in conducting comprehensive literature reviews utilizing multiple sources of media.

  • Experience developing, submitting and amending research protocols for Institutional Review Boards.

  • Extensive computer experience to include expertise with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Experience using data analysis software applications such as SPSS, SAS, R, ATLAS.ti.

  • Strong experience writing for social-behavioral research including study progress reports, peer-reviewed manuscripts, funder reports, grey literature, etc.

  • Detail-oriented with experience monitoring data collection, checking incoming datasets for data quality issues, and developing and maintaining online data collection instruments (e.g., on platforms such as SurveyGizmo, Redcap, etc.)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree or higher in public health or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience coordinating survey development and large-scale survey data collection.
  • Strong interest and experience conducting research on gender-based violence and health
  • Experience developing, coordinating and submitting funding proposals.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must be able and willing to travel (domestic) and work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends when required.
  • Must be located in San Diego or willing to relocate to San Diego once remote work safety restrictions due to Coronavirus (COVID-19) are lifted.
