Position Summary

The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Research Coordinator to join our team in a Full Time position to work within the division of Nurture Science. Columbia University Medical Center’s Department of Pediatrics is a world leader in providing care for children. Our mission areas include Healthcare, Education and Research. We offer care for our patients in over 25 specialty areas as well as individualized care for complex cases. Our Residency, Fellowship and Graduate programs are among the best in the Nation. Our Clinical, Translational and Basic Science research features collaborations across specialties and stretches from the bench to bedside. We also have several active Clinical trials available to our patients. This position will support the department by providing clinically oriented research in hospital, office, and lab settings for a randomized controlled trial examining the effects of a high nurture family intervention on premature human infants in the neonatal intensive care unit. Additionally, we are examining the physiology of mother-infant interactions. This is an opportunity for anyone who is interested in translational research, clinical training and exposure to a multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain IRB approvals and reports by reviewing research protocols and determine data management requirements for each patient enrolled; interact with the regulatory office to maintain regulatory documents and administrative files for each protocol.
  • Work with the research nurse and Principal Investigators to confirm that each patient meets eligibility criteria specified for protocols and enrollment into clinical trials.
  • Support clinical staff and other research coordinators in their efforts to administer intervention.
  • Submit monthly reports to clinical protocol office, tracking patient enrollment and payments for sponsored protocols.
  • Maintain both patient and regulatory research records, working with the study team to gather all required data and relevant clinical information.
  • Confer with all members of the clinical team to confirm appropriateness and timeliness of tests.
  • Prepare written and oral reports, assist with physiological and behavioral assessments, attend weekly program meetings, and Contribute to manuscript preparation.
  • All other duties as assigned

Data collection and management:

  • Collect in-person and remote follow-up measures on patients post-treatment as required by the protocol.
  • Enter data into a centralized database program and input participant data into our database.
  • Coordinate data management and other aspects of clinical research protocols being conducted through the Nurture Science.
  • Work with various departments, physicians and labs, including outside hospitals, to ensure accuracy and timely retrieval of data.

Coding:

  • Collect in-person and remote follow-up measures on patients post-treatment as required by the protocol, enter data into a centralized database program, and Input participant data into our database.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience required plus two years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Master’s Degree in Sciences
  • Statistical programs/database management
  • Experience with collecting, cleaning and analyzing physiological data using Biopac, GMark and MatLab is highly preferred.
  • Experience using and developing behavioral coding systems
  • Prior work experience with young children and their families
  • Must be willing to work occasional evenings and/or weekends when necessary

Other Requirements

  • Self-starter with the ability to undertake multiple tasks, set priorities, work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Must be highly organized and motivated and have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • This position requires solid organization and communications skills, both oral and written.
  • The ideal candidate will be able to maintain positive relations with faculty and other staff members.
