Responsibilities: The nurse in the COVID Vaccine Clinic provides direct patient care to both staff and members of the community who are eligible to receive the COVID-19 Vaccine Booster shots. This position serves as the nurse administering vaccines, observing patients after they have been vaccinated, and providing education to patients and their caregivers.
  • Vaccine Administration
    The nurse administering the COVID-19 Vaccine should possess
    • A basic level understanding of the Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine
    • Comfort with administering intramuscular injections
  • Patient Observation
    The nurse observing patients following their vaccine will provide
    • Care and monitoring of multiple patients for 15-30-minute increments following vaccine administration
    • Supportive care for patients experiencing adverse reactions to the vaccine
  • Patient Education
    The nurse administering vaccine and observing patients should provide on-time patient education to patients and their caregivers through
    • Assessment of patient allergies and use of critical thinking to determine ideal observation window (if longer than 15 minutes)
Qualifications:Required:
  • Current Washington State nursing license.
  • Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross) and renewal required every two years
  • Additional certification may be required dependent upon department.
  • Critical thinking; the ability to practice the cognitive skills of analyzing, applying standards, discriminating, information seeking, logical reasoning, predicting, and transforming knowledge
  • Ability to develop clinical judgment.
  • Time Management skills; the ability to organize and manage time and tasks independently
  • Ability to communicate effectively by looking and listening for cues, asking open-ended questions, exploring cues, using pauses, screening responses, and clarifying response.
  • Ability to effectively listen by using reflecting, acknowledging, summarizing, empathizing, and paraphrasing skill.
  • Ability to effectively provide information by checking what information the person knows already, giving small amounts of information at a time, using clear terms and avoiding jargon, avoiding detail unless it is requested, checking for understanding, and pausing and waiting for a response.
Preferred:
  • Previous COVID-vaccine administration experience
  • Flexibility
  • Ability to work 2+ eight-hour shifts per week, 8-4:30, M-F.
