Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for conducting testing procedures during manufacturing processes to ensure products comply with quality standards. Works with Quality Technicians and Quality Engineer to analyze and solve quality issues.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilizes and understands PPAP Process by supplying data for 1st Article and understanding the importance of the PPAP process and why it must be followed.
  • Interprets technical drawings, uses formulas, standard charts, tables, technical references, and confers with Supervisor to determine quality and reliability standards.
  • Communicates information effectively to shop by pointing out trends and dimensions approaching tolerance limits. Highlight the run charts and bring them to the machine and advises the operator to center process.
  • Performs First Article Inspections/Capability Studies and completes required documentation.
  • Records inspection data, applying statistical quality control procedures and analyzes data for trends.
  • Identifies trends and notifies operators and supervisors of dimensions skewing outside or near tolerance limits.
  • Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
  • Understands the proper use of gages and equipment and inspects parts to determine compliance against the dimensions listed on the technical drawing, utilizing inspection equipment such as micrometer, caliper, optical inspection equipment, and CMM.
  • Performs receiving product inspection, checking product for certification when returned from outside Vendor processing.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots problems with programs and repair them.
  • Repair of issues that arise on CMM or when it shuts down.
  • Build probes for CMM
  • Recommends methods to minimize scrap
  • Detects problems and interrupts the manufacturing or the delivery of products when Quality is not assured
  • Follows established procedures for defective products and gives all information to Supervisor when product is put on “Hold”. Completes an NC
  • Advises on inspection changes and their implementation and provides training, tools and techniques to enable others to achieve quality
  • Assists the Quality Manager as required
  • Maintains a safe and organized work environment by recognizing and correcting unsafe conditions or acts and ensuring department safety goals are met

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:
Associates degree in related technical field or equivalent experience in a Quality Technician position.

EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
Four to six years experience in a Quality Technician position within a manufacturing environment.
Extensive CMM experience.
Must be familiar with ISO 9001, IATF 16949 experience is a plus
Proficient in PC usage, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
Experience with quality systems, quality improvement techniques, technical audit, and corrective/preventive action desired.
Experience in developing Production Part Approval Process (PPAPs) and First Article Inspections (FAIs) preferred.

SKILLS & ABILITY:
Thorough knowledge of Manufacturing Processes and Quality Processes / Systems
Thorough understanding and use of typical gaging utilized in inspection
Ability to create new programs from CAD on CMM
Ability to work with Statistical tools
Ability to work in a cross functional team environment, make timely decisions and take actions independently
Strong math and Statistical skills.
Ability to use Inspection and Defect data in Root Cause Analysis, and to develop test and inspection procedures
Reading comprehension and use of active listening skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Positive attitude and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, teamwork-oriented environment
Ability to work autonomously with confidence
