Job Description

Specialized Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Seasoned buyer who possesses strong negotiation skills. Minimum three years purchasing experience
  • Basic blueprint reading
  • Understanding of manufacturing and inventory system management - MRP software experience preferred
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of transportation/logistics operations – landed cost/incoterms
  • Understanding of contract law and purchasing regulations
  • PC Skills: Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point, MS Outlook
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize multiple projects and execute accordingly.
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers, management, internal and external customers, and others in a courteous and professional manner
  • Expedite suppliers with late delivery

Major Job Functions

  • Purchases, monitors, and maintains materials necessary to support production requirements in order to maintain volume requirements and fulfill customer requirements.
  • Identifies cost reduction opportunities by reviewing supplier performance and material options in order to meet and/or exceed the cost reduction initiatives.
  • Assist cycle-counting process with the purpose of eliminating stock losses to avoid downtime, optimizing reporting accuracy of raw materials, and preventing financial losses during annual physical inventory.
  • Participate in direct material negotiations with external suppliers.
  • Provides support to ISO 9001 initiatives in order to optimize the quality and environmental management of raw materials while maintaining ongoing certification objectives.
  • Participates in annual budget preparation by providing input in the area of cost outs.
  • Monitors supplier performance in areas of delivery, quality, and cost savings initiatives in order to provide data for supplier evaluation and future business determination.
  • Actively support and participate on cross-functional teams by providing data, research assistance, and cost analysis in order to meet team objectives.
  • Conducts supplier site visits in order to optimize current relationship, determine future objectives, and assist in the resolution of production, quality, and/or delivery problems.
