Job Description

Doubleday is seeking a Publicity Assistant to join their team and provide day-to-day support to the Senior Director of Publicity and Associate Director of Publicity. Responsibilities consist of both heavy administrative and project work.


The role:

  • Support the Senior and Associate Directors in all facets of their daily work: calendar management and scheduling; phone, e-mail, letters, memos, and other written correspondence; handling mailings
  • Develop and write press releases, pitch letters, author Q&As, and press kits
  • Identify key audiences on a title-by-title basis, develop targeted mailing lists, and execute galley mailings
  • Contact with agents, authors, booksellers, and media
  • Evaluate proposals and provide written feedback
  • Coordination of publicity campaigns
  • Assist with planning for book tours, media outreach, detailed itineraries, and some author travel, where necessary
  • This is a fast-paced, telephone, e-mail, and internet-heavy position (Webex, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.) that requires someone with an extremely professional manner and the ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines

  • Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Exceptional writing skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to read on deadline
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Previous administrative experience
  • Skilled in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word required. InDesign a plus
  • Self-starter with the ability to develop new projects and departmental initiatives
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Strong interest in the book publishing industry
  • Fluent in digital technology and social media
  • A goal-oriented team player who can cultivate productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency in creative problem solving, decision making, and time management
  • Book publishing or publicity/PR experience a plus but not required
