Minimum Salary: $72,149.55 annually
Maximum Salary: $133,746.50 annually (maximum entry level $94,668.78)

Faculty/Educational Administrators:
The District participates in the State Teacher’s Retirement System (STRS) for faculty. Employees covered under the State Teacher’s Retirement System (STRS), are vested 100% after five years of full time service credit. All coverages begin on the first day of the month following the hire date.

Basic Function

This is a full-time, tenure track, teaching assignment in the Division of Health Careers. This assignment includes teaching classroom theory, clinical instruction, skills lab, testing, and clinical evaluation of students to a student population that is highly diverse in terms of academic preparation, cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds as well as physical and learning abilities.

Instructor is responsible for arranging clinical rotations in hospitals and clinical community sites. Clinical teaching assignments and/or classroom instructional assignments may involve day and/or evening shifts. Clinical teaching assignments will be in hospitals, clinics, developmental centers, and outpatient and inpatient psychiatric care facilities . Instructor will be responsible for providing a full professional service week.



Education and Experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience

OR

Any Associate’s Degree and six years of professional experience

AND

    Meet the following qualifications set by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians:
  • A valid, active license as a California Registered Nurse or Psychiatric Technician

AND

  • Shall have or willing to complete (within 6 months of hire) a course in teaching offered by an accredited school;

AND

  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Certification

AND

  • Successful approval by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians

AND

  • Pass a pre-employment drug test;

AND

  • Pass a pre-employment physical examination and physical abilities test.

OR

The equivalent. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments in the field may be judged as equal to the stated minimum qualifications for these positions. Candidates who feel they possess such equivalent qualifications must request and submit an APPLICATION FOR EQUIVALENCE form. Supporting documents must be included with the completed form.

AND – A sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An advanced degree in nursing or a related field.
  • Recent teaching experience in nursing or psychiatric technology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Experience and competency working with and integrating computers, multimedia and computerized software as part of the teaching/learning experience.
  • An understanding of the advantages and challenges of developing a psychiatric technician program in a small, rural community college.
  • Ability, interest, and willingness to develop and maintain working relationships with local high schools to facilitate recruiting and articulation of the psychiatric technician program.
  • Ability to deliver instruction using strategies designed for diverse learning styles.
  • Ability to design learning objectives and assess learning outcomes.
  • Willingness to work with students having a wide range of skills, motivation, and academic or vocational goals, as well as cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Ability to provide leadership within the discipline and with college initiatives to improve student learning.
  • Ability and willingness to work effectively with college committees and other organizations and to be involved in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities

Knowledge and Abilities

PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS:

  • Provide instructional and/or non-instructional services as specified by contract or assignment in a diverse campus and community environment.
  • Maintain a course outline for each assigned course.
  • Keep accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and scholastic progress.
  • Develop or participate in the development of curriculum.
  • Provide current course orientation materials including syllabus and course outline to each student.
  • Post and maintain scheduled office hours.
  • Attend meetings pertinent to faculty responsibilities or assignments including committee meetings.
  • Participate as assigned in articulation activities with local schools, other community colleges and four-year colleges.
  • Use media aids, the library and other resources as appropriate. Maintain currency in subject matter and/or service area.
  • Communicate with students and staff in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrate versatility in instructional methodology and versatility in serving a diverse student population.
  • Be familiar with and observe appropriate Board policies and contractual agreements.
  • Willingness to promote Porterville College through community service within the local community
