8 hour night shifts every other weekend. Some 3-11. No 12 hour shifts. RNs must: Be aware of and be able to complete Admission process from start to finish including Master Treatment Plans and updating treatment plans; Med reconciliations; Night chart audits. 30 min lunch breaks only. Follow all expectations of regular hospital RNs in a psychiatric hospital setting
Duties:
120-bed private psychiatric facility located on the south shore of Pembroke, MA. Our licensed & accredited facility is home to adult, teen and older adult inpatient programs, as well as partial hospitalization programs for teens and adults. Patients with co-occurring psychiatric & substance abuse disorders can also be treated on most units. RN must be able to demonstrate knowledge & skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth & development over the life span, possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status, interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, & to provide the care needed as described in policies & procedures. * Utilize nursing process, nursing diagnoses & nursing interventions & accountable to the patient, family & peers for delivery of optimum psychiatric care maintaining a holistic approach, in order that the organization can fulfill its primary mission of providing quality health care within the community * Reports to the RN Manager, CNE/DON or designee, & is under the direction of the RN Supervisor(s). Interacts with patients, patient's families & all internal departments * Changing pace * Much time spent sitting & walking * May work in noisy & congested areas * May be exposed to violent patients & bodily fluids Essential Physical/ Mental DEMANDS: Ability to withstand a varying pace in a labile clinical setting. Ability to prioritize workload. Ability to respond physically to psychiatric crises & to lift weak &/or disabled patients. Manual Dexterity: Required: Ability to write legibly in patient charts. JOB EXPECTATIONS: * RN PROCESS & PRACTICE: Assesses, diagnoses, plans, implements & evaluates patient & family needs to ensure holistic care for assigned patients. Performs nursing tasks in accordance w/established STANDARDS of nursing practice in order to ensure quality of nursing care. Completes nursing assessment (in its entirety) w/in 8 hours of admission. Consistently initiates collaboration w/others after completion of own assessment. Formulates nursing care plan within 24 hours of admission. Reassesses patient needs & response to nursing interventions & revises nursing care plan on an ongoing basis via daily nursing notes & other nursing requirements. Consistently identifies patient & family educational needs, effectively communicating (via teaching methods) & evaluates the effectiveness of the interventions. Manages time effectively. Knowledge of medications, safely medicates patients & evaluates the effects of the medication. Maintains therapeutic RN/patient relations. Gives & receives feedback on patient response to treatment interventions to/from others. Responds to medical issues in treatment & develops nursing interventions as appropriate. * NURSING COMMUNICATION: Communicates effectively, both verbally & in writing. Maintains all required documentation. Verbalizes patient & unit concerns. Presents info logically & in order of occurrence of events. Delivers verbal report noting change in patient status & the unit milieu.
Skills:
BLS certification - Required Current RN license to practice in the state of MA - Required Diploma in nursing from an accredited School of Nursing - Required Experience in a behavioral health/psychiatric healthcare facility - minimum of 1 year - Required Handle with Care (HWC) - will train during orientation - Required Travel experience - minimum of 1 year - Required Ability to communicate clearly through spoken words & in writing - Required
Education:
Diploma in nursing from an accredited School of Nursing. Current Massachusetts RN licensure. Must obtain & maintain CPR & HWC certifications.
