The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Program Coordinator for the Nashville-South Corps, located in Nashville, Tennessee.
Job SummaryThe Program Coordinator assists the Corps Officers in the planning, growth, and implementation of Emerging Youth that foster a positive environment; encourages and promotes a supportive environment for youth to address barriers they may be experiencing; performs necessary administrative duties; responsible for developing and coordinating programs and strategies to address the identified needs; coordinates office services and related activities. Provides information about The Salvation Army’s Emerging Youth operations and services.
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of The Salvation Army Red Shield Emerging Youth descriptions and ability to implement same. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Knowledge of age appropriate programs for children. Knowledge of effective practices and procedures of recreational program management. Ability to coordinate and supervise the work performed by subordinate staff and volunteers. Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with people of all socioeconomic backgrounds. Ability to intervene in individual or group situations. Ability to prepare and maintain statistical records in an accurate manner. Ability to work with people and to provide assistance in a calm, courteous, and tactful manner. Ability to maintain an adequate supply of applications, informative materials and/or brochures for distribution to visitors. Ability to respond to emergencies in a calm and effective manner. Ability to project a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or G.E.D. required, college degree in education or social work a plus and Two years experience in coordinating youth programs, preferably in after school settings or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skill, and abilities.
Physical Requirements/Working ConditionsAbility to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to operate a telephone and/or switchboard. Ability to sort documents alphabetically and numerically. Ability to perform routine mathematical computations. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
