Job Description

Product Manager II, Search & Discovery

Search and Discovery provides a portfolio of products that enable customers across Expedia Group’s diverse portfolio of brands to easily find and plan travel that meets their unique needs. Our team provides innovative tools and uses sophisticated machine learning systems to remove friction from the travel search experience to enable a marketplace where diverse customers are matched with relevant partner offers. Our teams work with partners across the organization to create products that increase customer engagement and increase transactions, as well as creating additional revenue by providing ways for partners to increase their visibility in the marketplace. As a product manager on the team, you will be a key member of the teams designing and optimizing these systems, will work with business partners, engineers, designers, and data scientists to resolve sophisticated problems, and you will see the results of your work rapidly making a positive impact on our customers and our business.

What you’ll do:

1) Data Driven:

  • Supervise changes in existing key performance indicators for your own work and identify when metrics are out of range

  • Monitor feature releases for accuracy and completion

2) Decision Making:

  • Compile data and information that will support the development of decision frameworks

3) Customer Empathy/Design Led Thinking:

  • Seek out user perspectives through numerous channels (product dashboards, support calls, account management input, online research, etc.) to understand customer needs/values and identify possible solutions to fill product gaps

  • Articulate target customer segments and why they are important

  • Challenge assumptions, redefine problem statements, build out hypotheses and tests with manager guidance

4) Product Development Lifecycle:

  • Own one or more product features. You will drive implementation of product features by identifying the problem, defining requirements and working with design and engineering to deliver upon those requirements

  • Seek new information to ensure understanding of the product lifecycle

  • Handle the backlog for product features and balance new features, bug and tech debt with assistance from your Manager

5) Communication, Presentation and Influencing:

  • Learn functional technical information (e.g. user flows, technical system design and workflows)

  • Assist team members in the creation of routine, informative communication materials for a core team

  • Understand EG’s processes, objectives and challenges and their respective impact on the business

6) Systems Thinking:

  • Bring a defined group of partners together, seek to understand their input when developing solutions to a problem and assist in identifying the implications of potential solutions

  • Think broadly and understand how, why and when customers and the business are impacted by policies/processes/user experiences/financial models/technology and when and where they differ

  • Execute tasks and/or collects data and insights to support the implementation of holistic solutions that reinforce the interconnectedness of components (business structure, people, process and technology) with desired outcomes

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's or related field; or equivalent related professional experience (Technical degree preferred)

  • Prior experience in a Product Management role is preferred

  • Demonstrates knowledge of basic decision frameworks using the scientific method to understand a developed model

  • Shows a basic understanding of how to communicate decision-making rationale to team members using insights from customers, the business or competitors
