The Process Development Engineer will be responsible for implementing and improving processes in support of new process and product development for the Atlantis and similar product lines at Dentsply Sirona Implants. The Process Development Engineer will participate in the development of processes, from piloting to full-scale, at multiple-sites, Global manufacturing and inspection of precision, custom dental components, crowns and associated components relating to the Atlantis and similar product lines.

The position will adhere with all stated company polices, rules and procedures relating but not limited to Quality, Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) which the role has responsibility.

Principal Responsibilities :

  • Development and maintenance of processes for expansion of the Atlantis and similar product lines.
  • Carry out projects to improve existing processes – milling, inspection, materials processing, additive manufacturing techniques, and others.
  • Conduct materials development including sourcing from outside suppliers.
  • Work without supervision to troubleshoot, develop, and improve processes with respect to productivity and quality.
  • Conduct process validations in compliance with regulatory guidelines such as CGMP, IQ, OQ, and PQ.
  • Project management of process development initiatives.
  • Continuous improvements to the overall process with respect to yield, productivity, process control, turn-around-time, and unit variable cost.
  • Design and procurement of equipment and tooling for various development projects.
  • Utilization of SQL databases for production support.
  • Ability to travel domestic and international 10% - 20%

Internal & External Relationships :

  • Works closely with other functions in the Organization such as Operations, Quality, and New Product Development, and others.
  • Works with Local and Global DIS factory organizations.
  • Works closely with vendors and maintains relations with external suppliers.

Education/Experience :

  • B.S. degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Materials Science, or related Engineering disciplines.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of manufacturing process and development experience in a medical device or related field.
  • Experience with: Working with technologists, customers, and senior management
  • Participation in cross-functional process and product development teams taking projects from concept, through process validation, and transferred to production on a global scale.
  • Designing processes via high-precision CAD/CAM milling and/or additive manufacturing technologies.
  • Utilizing databases for tracking manufacturing quality and productivity.
  • Process engineering and optimization in high-volume product lines.
  • Knowledge of statistics for determining process capabilities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, with proficiency in Word, Power Point, MS Project and Excel
    • Proficient in SolidWorks and designing of fixtures and tooling.
    • Familiarity with project management software, methodologies, and best practices

The Preferred Candidate:

  • Knows operation and maintenance of machine tools (5-axis CNC milling machines) and quality control instruments (CMM, optical comparator, calipers and gauges).
  • Some exposure to SPC, 6 Sigma, and lean concepts is desirable.
  • General knowledge of metrology techniques and GD&T.
  • Has work experience in the manufacturing and inspection of medical devices on a global scale.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate process and product development activities in conjunction with engineering personnel including small precise work holding, and cycle time optimization.
  • Experience with VB.NET to create application in support of manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of Machine Learning, IIOT and its applications for the industrial environment.
  • Experience with Additive Manufacturing with Resin and metal materials.
