The Press Assistant is responsible for assisting the Press Operators as directed to perform press set-up, make-ready, and clean-up activities within a defined time frame. A person in this role with exceptional performance will have the opportunity over time, to learn press operating duties as well.


2nd shift: Monday - Friday, 3:00pm - 11:00pm

Primary Duties:

  • Comply with all company and safety policies and procedures
  • Attains and maintains all defined job objectives related to the planning and execution of all jobs and quick changes
  • Assists in the performance of all external make-ready operations in preparation for changeover activities (changing from one label job to another)
  • Assists in the performance of all external clean-up activities following changeover
  • Cleans ink pans and ancillary equipment
  • Strips plates from cylinders
  • Locates dies to and from press
  • May be required to work with press operator to view labels with assistance of strobe light (Warning: Strobe lights may trigger epileptic seizures in persons with photosensitive epilepsy)
  • Comply with quality assurance specifications of the customer and MCC
  • May be required to complete quality assurance sheet and associated documentation
  • Responsible for following processes and procedures
  • Responsible for cleanliness of machinery and organization of the workspace
  • Participation in department meetings, process improvement events, training, and safety program as scheduled
  • Responsible for working overtime when needed and as assigned
  • Related duties as assigned


Experience/Skills Required:

  • High school education or equivalent
  • Print shop experience helpful, but not required
  • Must be able to work any shift
  • Ability to assist with press set-up, run, and clean-up
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to communicate and interact well with others (verbally and written form); seen as a team player
  • Ability to read and understand a job ticket
  • Ability to read a ruler and understand measurements (able to pass a ruler test)
  • Ability correctable to 20/20 (able to pass an eye test)
  • Ability to differentiate colors (able to pass a color test)
  • Ability to input data in the computer
  • Ability to work in a team environment with a high sense of urgency for on-time completion of assigned activities
  • Self-motivated with the ability to stay focused and follow instructions
  • Ability to stand and move around press area for long periods of time (typically 8 hour, but up to 12 hour shifts)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, 10-20 feet in distance
  • Assertive and solution-focused
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Positive attitude, team player

PHYSICAL AND/OR MENTAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to:
· Wear hearing, foot, eye and/or other personal protective equipment while in a manufacturing setting
  • Continually stand for prolonged periods; frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, climb and balance; moderate to frequent walking
  • Routinely use hands and fingers to handle, feel, grasp, and manipulate items; use hands and arms to reach for items in and around the press area; occasionally stoop or kneel while reaching
  • Frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds
  • Regularly push or pull objects up to 40 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities include – close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to distinguish color variations, and ability to adjust focus
  • Medium to loud noise environment
  • Work flexible/varying schedules and hours as needed
  • Work overtime as required by workload and customer mandated deadlines
