Job Description

With its lush, wooded hills, vast stretches of open space, and striking views of San Francisco Bay, the City of Belmont is one of the most desirable communities in San Mateo County. This tranquil, affluent, and diverse residential community of approximately 27,110 people is situated halfway between San Francisco and San Jose in the heart of the culturally and technologically rich Bay Area. The Belmont Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency composed of 31 sworn peace officers and 13 non-sworn professional staff.

The City is seeking an experienced leader who will continue the community focused service delivery provided by the Department’s talented staff. The new Police Chief will lead a department that is well thought of in its community, is solutions based, and is willing to be innovative when facing new challenges. The Chief reports directly to the City Manager.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in criminal justice, police science, public or business administration or a related field. Six years of increasingly responsible law enforcement experience including three years of management and administrative responsibility. The annual salary range is $184,056 to $230,076 DOQE. The city provides an outstanding benefit package.
