Job Description

Responsible for activities associated with organ recovery and preservation of donated organs. Works within general guidelines and in coordination with established full-time LifeLink Transplant Coordinator Staff. Applies principles of sterile technique and surgical expertise in the recovery of organs for transplant, participates in a per-diem schedule for organ recoveries with at a minimum 2 days scheduled per month, and maintains an open line of communication with Recovery Services Leadership.

  • Assists in the preparation of all sterile work areas and supplies needed for various stages of
  • Delivers supplies from coordinator to OR staff within 1 – 5 hours before case.
  • Meets/greets, OR staff, and reviews preference
  • Greets visiting transplant teams, obtaining necessary information from them and supplies donor chart to
  • Assists OR staff in room set-up and ensuring there is an abdominal retractor in the OR.
  • Participates in pre-OR huddle.
  • Takes pictures per ME/Coroner, AOC requirements and uploads to DonorNet.
  • Opens sterile perfusion and organ packing supplies on back
  • Assists primary LifeLink Coordinator with donor transport, as
  • Completes information on all appropriate pages of the LifeLink Deceased Donor Information Form, as directed by the primary LifeLink
  • Add drugs to perfusion solution under direction of primary
  • Prepares sterile slush for topical organ cooling and organ

Requirements:

  • Associates Degree in an Allied Science (ORT, EMT, or CST) and a minimum of two years of experience in any of these fields, or;
  • Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Program or its equivalent, or enrolled in senior level of a surgical program.
  • Current State Driver License with good driving record.
  • All appropriate inoculations and appropriate OSHA training.
  • Job performance and responsibilities require:
    • the ability to stand for ninety percent of the work time;
    • the interpersonal skills to clearly interact with hospital staff members, coordinators, supervisors, and management;
    • Once a schedule has been submitted, he/she will respond to cases when scheduled
    • Response to calls/texts is required within 15 minutes or the primary coordinator will move to the next per diem employee;
    • Arrival at the hospital prior to 1 (one) hour and 30 (thirty) minutes of the OR time is Consistent tardiness is not acceptable;
