Roles & Responsibilities:


  • Assists the Pathologist and Pathology Residents in all aspects of the processing of anatomic Pathology specimens, maintenance of proper records, and disposal of specimens
  • Performs duties of Pathology Physicians’ Assistant that includes, but are not limited to, dissection and the description and photography of specimens received from operating physicians
  • Assists in the performance of autopsies, including weekends
  • Keeps records of specimens and maintains equipment used
  • Assists in the maintenance of proper cleanliness and order in the Surgical Pathology Laboratory and in the disposal of specimens
  • Assists in or performs specimen photography
  • Meets criteria for competency assessment in all areas
  • Accesses and prepares specimens for testing
  • Enters specimens on log book or computer terminal as required
  • Checks every entry in computer for accuracy
  • Performs general housekeeping duties as assigned to maintain a safe and sanitary environment
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area
  • Observes laboratory safety practices

Requirements:


  • NYS Licensure as Pathologist Assistant required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science with at least 5 year of experience as Pathologist Assistant or
  • Master’s degree in Pathology Assistant program with no experience
