Job Description
  • Defines, executes and facilitates in-house and B2B business development activities with ownership of sourcing new technologies or product lines through licensing, collaboration, and supply agreements that align with the business area strategies, including preparing in-depth opportunity landscapes, attending scientific and partnering conferences, and networking with biotechs, and academia.
  • Can be asked to participate in M&A opportunities
  • Develop new vehicles for the existing portfolio by developing out-licensing deals, identifying and driving collaboration with other companies, and manage the global procurement channels
  • A successful candidate will need to be able to:
  • Closely collaborate with Global Product Strategy leaders, Operations, External BDs, Market Development, and R&D to define areas of interest, and to develop and execute the partnering strategy for those areas
  • Work with Product Management to conduct competitive market trend analysis to be used in the analysis for evaluating new business opportunities and new technology opportunities
  • Lead scientific and strategic assessments and cross-functional due diligence reviews
  • Drive decision-making and the deal process, and making presentations and recommendations to senior management
  • Develop and recommend deal structures and financial terms, and lead negotiations of term sheets and contracts with the leadership team
  • Understand the market landscape to identify, engage, and collaborate with other life science companies for co-development and/or co-marketing opportunities
  • Manage procurement channel partners on a global level
  • Travel as needed for negotiations and building coalitions of support for key deals
Qualifications
  • An advanced degree in life sciences; an MBA or strategy consulting experience strongly desired
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional work experience, with at least 5 years in business development roles
  • Business development or transactional experience with a record of accomplishment in leading and successfully completing complex or high impact transactions in life sciences, diagnostics, data sciences or personalized health care.
  • In-depth Knowledge and excellent understanding of the Drug Discovery and Development process for small and large molecules
  • Understanding of Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT) markets will be highly beneficial
  • Transactional knowledge (contracting, deal sheets, multi-tier/multi-constituent decision making, etc.)
  • Experience as the external face of the organization, leading and participating in business development partnering events and conferences
  • Demonstrates solid leadership skills and ability to gain consensus and influence process
  • Proven ability to drive business decisions and manage multiple projects effectively in a fast-paced environment
    • Energetic, goal-oriented results-driven self-starter with a strong executive presence, collaborative mindset, and ability to think strategically and analytically
  • Demonstrated understanding of drug/technology discovery, development and commercialization processes with the ability to effectively collaborate with Strategy and R&D leadership.
  • Good business instincts with fluency in business analytics and valuation methodologies.
  • Superb oral, written communication, interpersonal, influencing and negotiation skills. Skillful presenter of scientific and business information to executives
