Description

The purpose of the Part-Time Communications Officer classification is to receive and process requests for emergency/non-emergency assistance and to dispatch emergency medical, law enforcement, fire, or other agency resources.

This position will be required to work 12-hour shifts. The 12-hour shifts will be scheduled for either 5 am – 5 pm or 5 pm – 5 am.

This position may require you to travel to attend training.

This position is subject to be called into work during off time and sometimes on short notice.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Hold a current NCIC/ACJIC certification
  • Hold a Certified Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification with APCO or NENA (State of Alabama)
  • Have 2 years of experience with Southern Software or Public Safety CAD equivalent
  • Have 3 years experience as a Public Safety Telecommunicator
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Be at least 20 years of age
  • Pass a background check and drug screening as conditions of employment
  • Able to work overtime, 12-hour shifts, nightshifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be insurable by the City's insurance carrier
Additional Information

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
