Description:

Providence is calling an Ophthalmic Technician Non-Certified (Full-Time/Day Shift) to Providence Facey Medical Foundation in Mission Hills, CA.

We are seeking an Ophthalmic Technician Non-Certified who will provide courteous, professional back office support to our patients, physicians and staff.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Deliver upon the service expectations of both our patients and fellow staff members by listening to their needs; engaging in positive interactions; and following through on promises made in a thoughtful, efficient, timely and courteous manner so that their total outcome is better than expected
  • Respect the dignity, confidentiality and privacy of patients
  • Work in a safe manner, adhering to general safety precautions and standards. Report any unsafe conditions to their supervisor and/or the safety hotline
  • Keep the patients on schedule with their appointment times. Bring patients into exam rooms, taking the visual acuity and history
  • Set-up sterile equipment for the MD to use during surgery Draw up Xylocaine injections. Uses the auto refractor on patients. Patches eyes for the Ophthalmologist and other internists in the organization when needed. Dilates patients’ eyes. Assist with the examination of infants
  • Check and request charts from the Medical Records department per policy. Prepare and send patient charts to the Utilization Review Committee, as per policy, and in a timely manner. Schedule MRI, CAT scans and outside appointments
  • Maintain clean, organized and well stocked exam rooms, reporting any equipment failure immediately to the Director of Materials Management. Decontaminate rooms in a timely manner is expected
  • Utilize the computer system for making appointments, changing patient demographics and retrieving patient information. Assist and/or replaces the Ophthalmology receptionist, as needed, for the smooth functioning of this department. Obtains Medicare authorization for assistant when required
  • Notify patients for laser surgery and time of arrival at the hospital (Hospital does not call laser patients)
  • Responsible for obtaining department coverage or will cover if no other coverage is available. Obtains coverage for own physician when he/she is out. Aids receptionists with problem patients
  • Explain procedures to patients who may have questions
  • Notify staff when canceling schedules in computer per MD request. Create and change appointment schedules in computer per MD request. Cover Saturday office hours, as needed
  • Schedule surgeries, procedures, H&Ps, ultrasounds. Orders labs and x-rays. Maintains order and clean office instruments including autoclaving sterile instruments.
  • Sets-up and irrigates eyes and assists with intraoccular lens calculations. Calls hospital with specific information

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Education to meet certification, license or registration requirement
  • Current American Heart Association BLS for Health Care Providers
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in lieu of ophthalmic certification
  • Excellent clinical skills, ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with patients, physicians and staff.
  • Must be able to competently assist the Ophthalmology department, physicians and staff
  • Room patients into exam rooms efficiently and keep physicians schedules on time
  • Does not travel to the hospitals
