GENERAL SUMMARY

The O&M Technician ("O&M Tech") assists in the safe and efficient operation of the power plant and the supporting equipment and systems. The O&M Tech carries out all routine plant maintenance, inspects and monitors operating components and reports plant status.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

  • Assist in start-up, shut-down and normal operations of power plant systems
  • Operate major auxiliary apparatus such as: air compressors, demin water systems, generator cooling system, and locally controlled electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Perform operating tests and inspections and make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment assigned to achieve proper operating conditions
  • Execute orders from the Control Room Operator at isolated panels for clearing equipment or making it ready for service in accordance with operating instructions and procedures; clear, tag, test and safety tape these operations
  • Maintain logs as assigned
  • Report any abnormal or irregular conditions that develop during the progress of the work and take corrective measures within the scope of operating instructions
  • Assist during maintenance periods
  • Fully supports the use of a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) by displaying a proficiency in using the system, entering data consistent with fellow employees and dedication to the facility maintenance philosophy. Thoroughly records equipment problems on Maximo work requests and documents maintenance actions taken on work order forms. Handles corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance work orders in a timely and high-quality manner. Shows diligence in documenting spare parts usage and re-ordering.
  • Read meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature of equipment, vibration of equipment, hours of operation, pressure, and fluid levels to verify operating conditions. Visually inspect and listen to equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication.
  • Diagnose cause of mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment. Repair, replace, dismantle and examine defective parts along with lubricating and cleaning parts.
  • Uses fluke meter and other test equipment to calibrate and repair plant instrumentation and electrical circuits.
  • Assists in troubleshooting and inspecting programmable logic controllers, plant control systems and distributive control systems including control card replacement and wiring terminations
  • Complete other tasks as required by the Plant Manager

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The O&M Tech reports to the Lead Operations & Maintenance Tech under the direction of the Plant Manager.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Physical requirements include standing on feet for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.
  • Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions.
  • All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school
  • Minimum of two years of experience in power plant operations desirable. Extensive working knowledge of power plant industry is also desirable.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of aero derivative combustion turbine operations, electrical systems, industrial safety, hazardous waste management and inspection / recording of plant parameters is highly desirable
  • Experience with piping and instrument schematics and process controls is desirable
  • Familiarization with the use of a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS); the plant utilizes MAXIMO
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license
