Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) II - Central Austin, TX

Texas Oncology is looking for a full-time Oncology Registered Nurse II (RN) to join our team! This position will work at the Central Austin location, at 6204 Balcones Drive, Austin, TX. 78731. It is a Monday-Friday position, 8:30 am-5:00 pm., no weekends, evenings, holidays and no on call. This position also offers a one-time $2,500 sign-on bonus. What does the Oncology Registered Nurse II (RN) do?
This Registered Nurse will be a Desk RN supporting a Medical Oncology physician with a well-established practice and his Advanced Practice Provider.

The essential duties and responsibilities:

• Provides professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations; must recognize physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects of care and participates in companywide quality initiatives; supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
• Assess and monitors therapy of patients using appropriate technical skills under the direction and supervision of a physician.
• Assists physician with exams and procedures as needed.
• Assists with triaging patient/family phone calls and patient portal messages and documents relevant information in the patient's chart.
• Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching.
• Demonstrates knowledge of age specific differences in the patient population including physiological and developmental differences unique to each group.
• Maintains efficient and appropriate patient flow.
• Communicates all pertinent information and any interventions to the physician or mid-level provider.
• Serves as a resource person to the medical assistants and other members of the clinical team.
• Demonstrates awareness of community resources available to patients and assists with referrals if necessary.
• Follows OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents, biohazardous waste and any other material potentially infected with a blood borne pathogen.
• Maintains current knowledge of oncology nursing by participating in ongoing educational opportunities.
• Participates in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.

The ideal candidate for the Oncology Registered Nurse II (RN) will have the following background and experience:

• Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred.
• Minimum 1-3 years of RN experience in Oncology strongly preferred.
• OCN and ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy certification preferred.
• Experience and knowledge of the purpose and use of medications in the treatment of cancer is preferred.
• Current RN state license with the Texas State Board of Nursing.
• Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac and Life Support) certification required.
• Is a compassionate RN with strong communication skills, works well within a team environment, and is able to multitask in an effective manner.
