Occupational Therapist, PRN, Acute Care

Acute Care PRN OT Position. Seeking a new team member to provide clinical interventions to a wide variety of patient populations and diagnoses including: Medical, Surgical, Orthopedic, Trauma, Neurology, and Neurosurgery. Orientation period provided. At least 18 months of experience is preferred.

NC licensure and American Heart Association CPR Certification required.

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for assessment, diagnostic, and /or treatment services to any person when so ordered by a physician, dentist, or podiatrist. Treatment is provided through the employment of physical means such as therapeutic exercise, heat, water, electricity, massage, ultrasound, and the use of rehabilitative procedures and devices.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university. M.A. or Doctorate (accreditation AOTA) preferred. One year of experience in occupational therapy.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:

Licensed to practice Occupational Therapy in the State of North Carolina with current licensure. Active member of AOTA encouraged, but not required. CPR Certification every two years. Valid NC driver's license.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Responsible for the performance of specialized tests, such as manual muscle testing, goniometry and teaching occupational therapy procedures to the patient, family and other health personnel.
2. Performs both individual and comprehensive evaluations with multidisciplinary team members. Provides written summary of diagnostic findings to be incorporated into team plan.
3. Plans intervention strategies and communicates effectively with families regarding the child's strengths and weaknesses; work may be performed in homes, agencies, preschools or clinics.
4. Provides occupational therapy treatment services including neuro-developmental and sensory motor therapy, developmental stimulation, home programming, equipment demonstration, or other treatment modality to enhance sensory motor functioning and general developmental status.
5. Provides documentation of goals and objectives for therapy as well as the course and progress of interventions with the patient. Participates in IFSP (Individualized Family Service Plan) as needed.
6. Participates in chart review of clinical records for quality assurance. Attend relevant workshops and update instruments/tools to ensure most beneficial practices for population served.
7. Attends scheduled staff, CDSA, or other committee meetings as needed.
8. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Exposure to hazardous substances, infectious diseases, and body fluids
Subject to many interruptions.
Potential exposure to infectious/contagious diseases, hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids, wastes, toxic
chemicals and radiation
Handles emergency or crisis situation
Subject to many interruptions, highly stressful and crowded/noisy conditions
Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquires
Handles absentee replacement on short notice
