Job Description

Requirements

Under the general supervision of the Environmental and Occupational Programs Manager, the Occupational Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for providing technical guidance, training, inspections, and program improvement in support of the University-wide occupational health and safety programs to ensure a safe environment. This will involve direction from a variety of safety professionals on campus. The programs which are of concern for Occupational Health and Safety and Environment include, but are not limited to: lab safety, hazard communication, respiratory protection, confined space entry, hearing conservation, lockout/tagout, fall protection, machine guarding, ergonomics, fire and life safety, hazardous materials shipping, and electrical safety.

Coordinates with the Environmental Programs Lead and Senior Industrial Hygienist to conduct corrective and preventive measures to result in safety.
Interface with Facilities Occupational Health and Safety Manager to address campus safety concerns.
Interface with students, staff, administrators, faculty, visitors, vendors, as well as consultants to ensure compliance with NFPA, OSHA and DOEE regulations.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety or a related field.
At least three years of experience preferred.
Knowledge and experience should include safety training, such as HAZWOPER, AHERA, and DOT training.
Verbal and written communications are important for the position to ensure that corrective measures are adequately applied.
Knowledge of construction safety is a plus.
