Nursing Assistant I - General Surgery Unit

Our team is looking for a Nursing Assistant to join our General Surgery Unit at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange. This is a full-time, 12-hour night shift position with 72 hours in a biweekly pay period.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

• Provide routine direct patient care within specific unit policies and procedures.
• Report pertinent information to the Registered Nurse on duty and respond to patient care needs.

Qualifications and Skills needed for this role:

Required qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED
• Completion of the first semester of a Registered Nurse Academic Program or equivalent education/experience: 6 months of acute, psych, or long-term care facility experience or current California Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) certification.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers.
• Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with patients, patients' families, and ancillary departments.
• Adequate math skills and basic computer data entry skills.
• Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time.
• Cooperation and flexibility by responding to varying and unpredictable situations.
• Ability to transport and lift patients using hospital approved lifting devices or techniques.
• Flexibility to adapt to new and changing situations.

Preferred qualifications:

• At least 6 months of relevant experience in an acute care facility.

The General Surgery Unit at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange is a 30-bed surgical unit. Our unit is very focused on early ambulation, correct documentation on what the patients are eating, and pain management. We focus on our HCAPHS scores and encourage our staff to be engaged in the unit, by providing their input and feedback, taking part in change conversations. We are a family focusing on teamwork, collaboration, accountability and caring for our patients and each other.
