GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Performs consultation, training and technical assistance to division attorneys and staff regarding medical issues. May interact with other state and governmental agencies. Level of Complexity of State Classification: RoutineLevel of Supervision of State Classification: Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Reviews medical records, program reports, and patient assessments to assist attorneys in evaluating the standard of care, reasonableness of costs and necessity of medical treatment in personal injury and workers’ compensation cases
Conducts medical research
Provides written medical chronologies and opinions regarding the mechanism of injury, the standard of care, reasonableness of cost and the necessity of medical treatment
Assists attorneys in deposition and trial preparation by providing lay explanations for medical terminology and anatomy
Assists attorneys in finding and retaining appropriate medical expert witnesses for prelitigation and litigation matters
Assists in maintaining a database of expert witness and expert witness depositions
Nurse II - All the above functions for a Nurse II, PLUS:
Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Level of complexity of state classification is routine
Performs related work as assigned
Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions
Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule
Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information
Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity


Qualifications


Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; experience in the following (or closely related) fields may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year
basis:
Experience: 2 years of full-time clinical experience
Licensed by the Texas State Board of Nursing
Knowledge of health and nursing care principles, practices, and procedures.
Knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures
Knowledge of health care laws and regulations
Skill in the care and treatment of patients
Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines
Skill in effective oral and written communication
Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making
Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback
Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment
Ability to provide excellent customer service
Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG workspace within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers
(e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)
Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel
Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA
Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5%
Nurse II - All the above functions for a Nurse I, PLUS:
An additional year of full-time clinical experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in legal setting
Experience using MS Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat X Pro and LCMS
Knowledge of legal system and terminology
