Overview:

As the Network Specialist II for the Network Configuration and Deployment team, you will be responsible for the configuration and integration of new network elements and solutions into the current data, voice, video, switching and computing architectures. You will respond rapidly to incoming projects and partner with IP Network engineers, Project Managers and local Field Services contacts to implement new network designs. You must be knowledgeable about the current state of the TDS network and its capabilities and must be aware of ongoing efforts to upgrade the network. You must be familiar with current programs including, 10G & 100G backhaul and related transport hardware, CAA, Cable, IPTV, TDSTV+, SHSD, SIP migrations. The Network Specialist is responsible for providing engineering/design assistance and deployment of TDS shared services.

This position has the ability to work remotely in any of the 40+ States in which TDS Telecom operates.
This position can be hired at either a Network Specialist, Network Specialist I, or Network Specialist II level depending on the skills and qualifications of the candidate.   • Responsible for maintaining a very high level of industry expertise in network hardware and networking architectures.
  • Integrate potential solutions into current voice, video, data, switching and computing architectures.
  • Provide network consulting services to TDS teams as needed.
  • Provides expert problem resolution. Assists support personnel in problem determination, testing, vendor problem escalation and network configuration as needed.
  • Manages technology and deployment projects. Needs to be able to manage personnel from several different teams to achieve project objectives and deadlines.
  • Works to ensure projects and general work flow are completed on-time and within budget.
  • Fosters a positive attitude that promotes TDS initiatives.
  • Willingness to learn and work on new technologies.
  • Availability to perform some work during the off hours established by maintenance windows (12pm to 6am Local).
Qualifications:Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree –OR- 4+ years professional work experience.
  • 4+ years experience in Voice/Data/Video networking.
Other Qualifications
Technical Skills
  • Strong routing, switching and multiservice access technologies background.
  • Fiber optical communication.
  • Knowledge of digital hierarchy, circuit provisioning and bandwidth allocation.
  • Experience with network aggregation services from DS-0 to OC-192.
  • Familiar with Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexing (ROADM).
  • Ethernet extension and aggregation over Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM).
  • Possess a working knowledge and understanding of fiber testing, OTDR, and fiber characteristics due to fiber length, attenuation, splicing and connector loss.
  • Broadband and narrowband access technologies including, but not limited to: DOCSIS, DS3, OCX, PON, POTS, PRI, T1 and xDSL.
  • Voice Switching technologies (VSCA).
  • TCP/IP technologies including, but not limited to: bridging, IP subnetting, IPTV, MPLS, multicast, QoS, routing, switching, traffic engineering, tunneling, and VoIP.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications including, but not limited to: Access, Excel, Visio and Word.
