Job Description
What You Will Do:

POSITION SUMMARY
This position exists to perform a variety of radiographic procedures under general supervision of departmental supervisor and Radiologist to assist in a diagnosis of disease and/or injury. Performs in either all or one of the following sub-specialties, Computerized Tomography (CT), Mammography, Angiography/Interventional or Ultrasound (Sonography). Requires ARRT certification and Maryland licensure as a Radiologic Technologist.
The following job description covers the most significant duties performed, but does not exclude other work assignments not mentioned PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Principal Duties:
1. Principal Duites:
a. Serves as a point of contact for referring physicians and patients to resolve delays in care and expedite service
b. Adheres to and supports Imaging Services for:
i. Staffing
ii. Supplies
iii. Equipement/supplies
c. Identifies, reports, and takes corrective action for:
i. Equiptment malfunctions
ii. Quality issues
iii. Adverse events
2. Explains process to patient, and instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for examination.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responds to patient's concerns and questions.
3. Utilizes appropriate assessment skills prior to performing the Nuclear Medicine procedure and notifies the Physician/Radiologist, when appropriate:
a. Patient identification
b. Clinical condition (i.e., pregnant, isolation, risk to fall, etc.)
c. Special needs (i.e., blind, hard of hearing, limited English speaking)
d. Correct patient position to obtain the proper view of affected area.
e. Patient’s understanding of process
f. Obtains informed consent, when appropriate
g. Completes worksheet appropriately for all exams.
4. Performs radiographic and subspecialty procedures as prescribed by a Physician.
a. Seeks clarification when test request is not clear with the department head and/or physician before tests are administered.
b. Obtains patient history prior to exam
c. Selects correct technical factors to obtain optimal film diagnostics.
d. Performs duties specific to the subspecialty area:
i. Ultrasound/Sonographer
(1) Performs Ultrasound procedures as prescribed by a Physician.
(2) Seeks clarification when test request is not clear with the department head and/or physician before tests are administered.
(3) Selects correct technical factors to obtain optimal film diagnostics.
(4) Utilizes knowledge of anatomy and Ultrasound physics to accurate produce images.
(5) Properly selects transducer and clinical factors based on patient habitus
(6) Assists Radiologist during interventional procedures.
(7) Performs US OR procedures.
ii. CT (Computed Tomography) Technologist
(1) Performs general CT procedures, abdomen, extremities, brain, and spine
(2) Completed history and required documentation to include consent, and contrast usage

(3) Actively evaluates image quality and strives to perform scans with minimum patient exposure
(4) Completes image reconstructions based on established protocol
iii. Mammographer
(1) Utilizes knowledge of breast anatomy, physiology, pathology, and technical factors related to breast imaging to accurately perform breast examinations.
(2) Observes radiation protection related to breast imaging
(3) Works independently to perform exams under the direction of the Radiologist
(4) Performs daily QC as required for state and federal regulations
(5) Maintains accurate quality control records
(6) Ensures patient notification, call backs and notification letters are performed within established time frames
iv. Angiographer/Interventional Technologist
(1) Performs Angiography, Inteventional procudures under the direction of the Radiologist
(2) Utilizes proper sterile technique
(3) Maintains proper procedure documentation in accordance with hospital and departmental policy
5. Operates equipment to perform procedures
a. Safely operates and troubleshoots equipment in accordance with department standards.
b. Performs Quality Control and Quality Assurance procedures for equipment to ensure proper function
c. Notifies supervisor when maintenance is required for equipment.
6. Utilizes hospital and radiology order entry software
a. Accurately performs image capture using digital imaging devices.
b. Correctly utilizes the PACS system to send images for interpretation and long term storage
c. Links and associates studies per the departmental policy and procedure.
d. Utilizes image scanner for prior studies and create CD’s as needed for patients.
e. Uses correct identifiers for patient studies and matches images to patient demographics
f. Performs appropriate patient tracking in radiology and hospital information system as well as chart entries when required.


What You Need to Be Successful:
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Licensure/Certification/Registration
Required: Current Maryland license in good standing as a Radiologic Technologist.
Preferred:
Other:
  • Current certification with ARRT required.
  • CT Technologist: CT registry with ARRT Preferred, required with 1 year of hire date
  • Ultrasound Technologist/Sonographer: RDMS certification or ARRT certification preferred, required within 1 year of hire date.
  • Mammographer: ARRT certification in Mammography, reqired within 1 year of hire date.
  • Angiography/Interventional: ARRT Certfication preferred
Life Support Certification: (Check all that apply)
Basic Life Support – Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
Education/Knowledge (see attached explanation sheet)
Attained Level: Formal Education Training
Preferred:
Completed Course Work/Program: Graduate from Joint Review Committee approved program for radiologic technology.
