Job Description

Position: Mine Geologist

Position Status: Full-Time

Reports To: Chief Mine Engineer

Summary of Position

The Mine Geologist will provide mine geological services, including mapping and ore control for the mine operations. This position works closely with mine, engineering and process operations in this planning effort.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage direct ore blending at the crusher stockpile.
  • Responsible for assisting with ore control, ore characterization, ore pit mapping, quarterly ore and waste sampling, and planning support using the geological data.
  • Blasthole sampling oversite and QA/QC.
  • Coordinate collection of geological data including blast hole samples, geological samples as required, mapping of blastholes, and highwall mapping.
  • Assist with reconciling the geology between plan and model(s).
  • Assist with surveying, highwall mapping, and other duties as assigned.

Experience and Training

  • Previous Work Experience Required: prefer a minimum of 2 years experience in the mining industry preferably in an open pit operation.
  • S. degree in Geology or Geological Engineering.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work with minimum supervision.
  • Experience with Microsoft computer systems and a working knowledge of Mine Planning Software (MineSight), AutoCAD and Database programs are a plus.
  • Proven ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over time.

Safety

Expected to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times while in a production environment (Hard Hat, Steel Toed Boots and Reflective Visible Clothing/Vest) or as required for the specific job duty. Be alert and observe, correct, and report unsafe conditions. Follow operating procedures and comply with all regulatory requirements. Assure that appropriate task training has been completed and documented for all equipment, vehicles, and systems.

Work Environment

The employee is occasionally exposed to hot or cold conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, chemicals and vibration. This position requires the ability to walk on uneven, sloped, rocky, wet and icy ground consistently and safely. Occasional environmental samples require lifting buckets of rock weighing up to 50 lbs. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office. When in the field, appropriate hearing protection may be needed.
