The Microgrid Electrical Technician will establish and maintain the high reliability of the microgrid generation systems. This position will work with many of the business units within Enchanted Rock including ER Electric and Electranet Service to develop a plan to sustain a high level of operability from site construction throughout equipment life. The Microgrid Electrical Technician will coordinate with the Network Operations Center (NOC) to ensure Enchanted Rock can meet customer requirements for on demand electricity.


Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Point of contact for system control and electrical equipment operability.
  • Perform pre-commission work and tests on system automatic transfer switches, electrical wiring, generator equipment and control program.
  • Commission microgrids and perform operational testing.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and control issues, some of which may occur outside of normal working hours.
  • Direct repair efforts on larger system maintenance items.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to procedures for operations and repair efforts to maximize safety and efficiency for all technicians in all regions.
  • Support NOC in safe and efficient operation of equipment during normal operations and grid disruptions.
  • Provide recommendations for improvements in design for existing and future generation and support equipment.
  • Install modifications and test system and design improvements to the microgrid fleet.
  • Assist Research & Development in laboratory and field set up and testing.
  • Provide training on best practices and lessons learned on microgrid operation.
  • Ensure Safe Operation of electrical equipment by enforcing company and industry standards.
  • Perform basic maintenance on Power Solutions International (21.9 L) and Marathon generator ends, as well as various voltage control and synchronizing equipment.
  • Be proficient at learning and utilizing manufacturer specific software to troubleshoot and diagnose engine and control system problems.
  • Facilitate technical support and liaison with equipment manufacturers.
  • Perform some scheduled, preventive, or predictive generator maintenance tasks.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair tasks that are predominately electrical in nature.
  • Perform periodic inspections to identify maintenance needs.
  • Work in potentially confined areas of high heat, humidity, and cold.
  • Follow company process and procedures for verbal/written communications.
  • Utilize all current technology for communication, documentation, and research.
  • Ensure Safe Operation of electrical equipment by enforcing company and industry standards.
Minimum Requirements:
  • 3-5 years of combined experience in Electrical and Mechanical systems operation.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle multiple projects.
  • Effective written and oral communications.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and coordinate with other areas to achieve goals and objectives with minimum direct supervision.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and complete projects on a timely basis.
  • Work with minimum supervision, be a self-starter, able to meet goals and deadlines.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and conduct root cause analysis.
  • Ability to interpret Electrical and Mechanical schematics.
  • Develop procedures to efficiently execute task.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office products (Project, Outlook, Word, Excel & Power Point).
  • Understanding of the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) 70E.
Preferred Skills:
  • Knowledge of electrical power distribution and control systems design.
  • Mechanical systems experience.
  • Technical Degree or Certification
  • PLC (Deep Sea Electronics and AcSELerator) systems experience.
