Full-time Clinical Specialist, PAD Specialists

We refer to our medical assistants as "Clinical Specialists" (CS's), because they are not "assistants". We offer extensive, one-on-one training to each new Team Member at this position, and train them to a high level of clinical competence. All new CSs must Qualify at their respective positions in order to work independently, and even then, they are under supervision. There are four different roles for our Clinical Specialists. There is the CS1 (Pre- and Post-Procedure), CS2 (Patient Consults), CS3 (1st Assistant to Physician Proceduralist) and CS4 (Procedure Room Circulator). Each CS is a valuable member of the procedure team. A newly hired CS will only train at ONE of these positions (not all 4 of them). That said, for star performers, opportunities to train and Qualify at additional CS positions, potentially for higher pay, do exist.

CS1 Responsibilities

  • The CS1s are fully responsible for patient pre-procedure prep, including: verifying the Medical Hx, medications, placing IV’s, obtaining baseline vitals and pedal pulses, preparing the groin for access, and meticulously documenting all information in our EMR.
  • Responsible for recovering the patient post-procedure, including: monitoring vital signs and access site, assuring hemostasis, obtaining pulses, discharging the patient home, again documenting all information meticulously in our EMR, and assessing inventory to verify that clinical supplies related to the procedures are at par levels.
  • The CS1 position requires a strong grasp of medical knowledge, confidence, attention to detail, equanimity (cool under pressure), and excellent communication and customer service skills to interact with both patients and family.
  • Must be able to work in cooperation with the rest of the Procedure Team including the Proceduralist Physician, CRNAs, and other Clinical Specialists.

CS2 Responsibilities:

  • The CS2 is an integral part of the 3-person Consult Team. The other two Team Members consist of the NP and the US tech.
  • A brief summary of how the consultation flow works: After the US tech sees the patients and performs the appropriate scans, the CS2 will begin the patient consultation that will consist of: Obtaining a detailed H&P, medication list, performing ABIs, taking vital signs, taking photos of any wounds, and patient completion of patient charting/documentation.
  • After patient interview has been completed, the CS2 must relay all information in a detailed, but brief manner to the NP that will further highlight if the patient is overall a possible candidate to proceed with a PAD procedure/intervention.
  • Once patient is on board with procedure and all questions have been answered, the CS2 will proceed with collecting necessary blood specimen via venipuncture for further pre-procedural testing.
  • It is important to be a well rounded customer-service-driven individual with the ability to maintain attention to details in a fast-paced environment to avoid errors and provide the best possible patient experience.

CS3 Responsibilities:

  • The CS3 Serves similar to a scrub tech. You will set out necessary instruments, keep a sterile environment at all times and position the patient on the operating table and arrange sterile drapes ensuring the surgical field is exposed.
  • You will also be handing instruments to the proceduralist. So it is important you are good with your hands and have great attention to detail.
  • You must be able to work well with the proceduralist which is the MD performing the procedure.

CS4 Responsibilities:

  • The CS4 is the circulator and acts as a leader when it comes to procedures.
  • They are responsible for making sure the flow during procedures is running smoothly which includes supervising the CS3 and CS1 (They are not your direct reports you are just supervising that they follow the clinical guidelines because you have more clinical knowledge.)
  • Duties that you can expect are: making sure the patient has followed all pre-procedure guidelines, going over the patient chart and labs, dispensing medication for the patient by mouth or through their IV, documenting the procedure, and building the report.
  • You also document what supplies were used during the procedure.
  • You must be prepared for patient complications and how to handle those.
  • This position requires a high level of medical experience.

All employees are expected to perform as an integral part of the PADS team, and to provide supplemental support as requested, required, or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Either MA certification or relevant clinical experience is required.
  • Spanish a plus but not a requirement.
  • An A+ customer service-oriented attitude is a must.
  • NO smartphone usage at work policy.

Pay Rate: Starting at $25 per hour, negotiable for star performers.
