Blue Origin is developing the next generation launch and space vehicle manufacturing facility on Florida’s Space Coast at our Orbital Launch and Manufacturing site. This team is chartered with supporting the design and procurement of Ground Support Equipment (GSE)and tooling identified by our engineering and manufacturing staff, and maintaining the equipment to minimize downtime and impacts to launch vehicle production and operations. The GSE group interfaces directly with vehicle production, launch systems, and other test and operational groups. We put a strong emphasis on design capability and hands-on technical ability, as our engineers are directly involved with design, analysis, equipment operation, trouble-shooting, and active engagement with engineering and maintenance personnel.   • Perform analysis (Hand Calculations & FEA) to support tooling design
  • Collaborate with Design Engineers to develop tooling based on analysis results
  • Coordinate directly with manufacturing, operations, and product development personnel to understand operational requirements and develop GSE to meet those requirements.
  • Review and approve Analysis reports.
  • Design of CAD models using PTC Creo.
  • Review standards and approve drawings for manufacturability.
  • Develop and approve design specifications, performance specifications, fabrication specifications, acceptance test procedures, and maintenance plans, for development of GSE.
  • Collaborate with external design and fabrication partners throughout completion of the project lifecycle (from collecting requirements through delivery and acceptance) to ensure GSE functionally meets requirements set forth in specifications.
  • Represent GSE considerations in manufacturing, operational, and program technical reviews
  • Participate in continuous training and skills development.
  • Build and present user documentation that clearly conveys design intent and alignment with standards, requirements, and specifications.
  • Travel approx. 10% of time.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s college degree in mechanical, aerospace, electrical, structural, industrial, manufacturing, or other related engineering major.
  • 5+ years’ experience with design and integration of mechanical systems (mechanisms, power transmission components, hydraulics, fluids systems, etc.), electrical systems/components, control systems, support frames/structures, and/or lifting fixtures.
  • Experience with FEA Software
  • Experience analyzing welded and bolted connections
  • Familiar with Industry codes (ASME, AISC, etc.)
  • Experience with hand calculations of structural and mechanical components.
  • Experience with design specifications, procurement, operation, and maintenance of GSE.
  • Hands on fabrication, assembly, or maintenance experience
  • Experience with CAD modeling and drawings in PTC Creo.
  • Experience with revision control and data configuration in Windchill.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and analytical skills with a proven record of driving sophisticated projects with minimal mentorship

Desired:
  • Experience working on aerospace development programs, production lines, or field operations in both design and hands-on roles; experience on commercial development programs a plus.
  • Strong verbal, presentation and written communication skills for technical teams.
  • Experience working in concert with a diversity of teams across multiple locations.
  • Experience with multiple CAD packages, CATIA, SolidWorks, etc.
  • Experience with ANSYS FEA Software
