Job Description
Center X is a large, complex educational research and professional development center for educators in the School of Education and Information Studies. Provide classroom support for teachers through coaching programs in alignment with the goals and vision of the California Subject Matter Projects among K - university students, teachers, faculty, administrators, and staff. Major responsibilities include designing, planning, administering and coaching in programs (e.g., institutes, follow-up sessions, workshop series, conferences, district wide programs) that focus on specific subject matter achievement for all students.

Required/Preferred

Ability to communicate effectively to small and large groups of people, from students to colleagues, teachers, parents, and administrators.

Required

Ability to design, implement, evaluate, and revise professional development programs.

Required

Ability to promote positive public relations image.

Required

Ability to develop, nurture, and sustain teacher leaders.

Required

Ability to summarize current research and reform issues regarding specific Subject Matter, and related education issues AND to apply them to programs.

Required

Working knowledge of management and organizational structures that facilitate the operation of a complex network of administrators, parents, teachers, students, and staff.

Required

Comfortable working in many different teaching environments and with teachers from varied backgrounds and experiences, organizational skills and flexibility.

Required

Specialized training and/or experience in coaching, preferably having participated in institutes offered by California State Subject Matter Projects.

Required

Prior experience as a teacher, academic/research project or applicable experience.

Required

An understanding of the developmental stages of students and State Curriculum 4, standards in language arts or mathematics.

Required

Knowledge, preferably a major or minor, in the specified content subject.

Required

A minimum of five years of successful teaching, preferably in an urban context.

Required

Skill in designing and writing of proposals, reports, and articles to secure funding.

Required

Skill in working with many different teaching environments and with teachers from varied backgrounds and experiences.
