Your Mission:
Medidata is looking for an experienced Manager, Engineering to lead one or more growing engineering teams as they design, implement, deploy and operate our services that enable clinical trial applications and data analytics. The person selected will be central to building the engineering teams, the infrastructure, the microservices and the software that runs the world's most used platform for clinical development. The products and services developed and maintained by this engineering group are primarily built with Ruby on Rails and on Amazon Web Services. You will work in a highly collaborative environment with product, PMO and QA and be responsible for solving complex problems that span cross-functional domains.

• Maintain a deep understanding of Medidata products and platform, and align with priorities, to deliver technical solutions

• Be a force multiplier, in leading by example as an individual contributor, architect, operations engineer and quality enforcer, to increase the effectiveness of the team

• Supervise technical aspects of projects, anticipate and mitigate risks and dependencies, ensure team health and manage complex tasks

• Propose optimizations to technical architecture to improve performance

Your Competencies:

Be self motivated, eager to engage, and have a high impact on challenging engineering problems, while continuously raising the standard of quality in our products and services in a full solutions-oriented SaaS environment.

Required Competencies

• Experience programming in Ruby, (but any additional languages like Java, C#, C++ etc. is a plus)

• Experience programming using object-oriented and SOA principles

• Experience building large scale, highly distributed systems

• Experience developing cloud-based web applications or services (AWS a plus)

• Proficiency in writing and optimizing SQL

• Experience using TDD and BDD frameworks

• Proficiency with CICD pipelines

• Adherence to agile development practices

• Ability to work in a fast paced dynamic environment

• Experience in leading one or more development teams

• Proven record of coaching and developing developers of varying maturity levels

• Strong communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Competencies

• Experience with Ruby on Rails Experience working with graph concepts and databases.

• Clinical research knowledge or work in a regulated environment

Your Education:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science (or related field)

• Minimum 5 years of leadership experience, and/or managing one or more engineering teams

• 7+ years of professional experience
