Job Description
Overview:Medxcel has a great job opening for you if you love design and are always asking "how can we make this better?" The Building Performance and Standards Manager will work closely with Medxcel's Strategic Planning team to understand how our planning and building standards can deliver more to our customers.
Stewardship of resources demands that Medxcel bases planning and design decisions on the best available evidence. The role of Manager of Building Performance and Standards includes responsibility for understanding customer facility expectations and evaluation of building performance and the use of evidence to support planning and design standards. The role will require collaboration with subject matter experts within Medxcel and its customers combined with analysis that optimizes standards across multiple factors and variables. The Manager of Building Performance and Standards will be responsible for managing two processes: evaluation of building performance and the creation of new standards and upgrading of existing standards. In this way, Medxcel will develop a body of knowledge that is unique in the marketplace. This is a remote position, home-based with some travel to facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Formulates, proposes, and when approved, executes studies regarding improvement of building performance as it can inform future planning, programming and standards work.
  • Organizes and participates in work to maintain and improve current standards for planning and design.
  • As assigned by the Director, collaborates on cross-functional Medxcel teams focused on reducing the cost of built projects, improving the value and performance and decreasing the time of implementation.
  • Manages the efforts of an analyst who will develop and maintain system-wide interior design standards including finishes and furniture.
  • Acts as the Medxcel liaison with designated customer contacts.
  • Manages the efforts of direct reports who maintain Design and Construction Standards documentation.
  • Coordinates the requirements of furniture vendor contracts with the standards. Coordinates and reports on vendor improvement initiatives. Coordinates the vendor submittal process.
  • Assists with design and technical coordination among disciplines and responds to technical implications of design decisions.
  • As assigned by the Director, consults with Ministry leadership and Medxcel teams regarding goals and approaches for interior design.
  • Ensures compliance and adherence to corporate standards and guidelines.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, human-centered Industrial Design, or Interior Design or equivalence in experience required
  • Master’s degree in related field of study preferred

License/Certification:

  • Accrediting or credential that illustrates focus and/or relevant expertise e.g. AIA, NCIDQ, IIDA, Black/Green Belt etc. preferred

Experience:

  • 5 years’ experience in healthcare environment required
  • 5 – 7 years’ experience in build design required
  • 10 years of experience with building performance evaluation, or post-occupancy evaluation in a healthcare environment or with related architectural design, interior design or space planning preferred
  • In-depth understanding of the development and implementation of standards.
  • Strong competency in evidence-based design.
Competencies:

  • Analytics – expert in the methodologies of generating data from observation of the built environment: Building Performance Evaluation, Post-Occupancy Evaluation, observational and comparative studies, etc. Understands and can implement basic cost-effectiveness studies.
  • Working familiarity with typical tools of analysis: statistics, data collection methods, collaborative tools such as Smartsheets, Excel with pivot tables, relational data bases, web-based data such as SharePoint.
  • Working familiarity with the practice of interior design in institutional settings.
  • Working familiarity with the functional characteristics of furniture and manufactured systems as well as the procurement processes.
  • Ability to influence others and move toward a common vision or goal
