Job Description
Overview:
Employees of Goodwill go to work each day just like everyone else. They stock shelves in retail stores, drive trucks, balance spreadsheets in accounting, manage people and much more. They are helping fund, through their work, training and job programs what will put people with employment barriers in our community back to work.
Goodwill has an opening for a Maintanence Technician in the Rocky Mount facility. This position is responsible for monitoring and maintaining Commercial Services equipment and production facilities and other GIV facilities as assigned.
Responsibilities:
  • Performs work as assigned by supervisor and as requested by production managers.
  • Adheres to all safety policies and procedures including wearing appropriate PPE
  • Adheres to all quality standards as outlined in the Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Displays positive work ethics and provides positive influence on program participants and coworkers
  • Works as part of a team
  • Works with production team to prioritize and schedule maintenance projects
  • Works with Materials Buyer to maintain stock inventory levels needed for preventive maintenance
  • Coordinates completion of facility start-up and shut-down procedures
  • Works with production and quality teams to write, review and implement equipment work instructions
  • Works with production team to suggest and follow through on equipment training
  • Assists with Instructing personnel in the use of tools, machinery and equipment
  • Works with production team to maintain tools, machines and equipment through correct use of the Landport system
  • Addresses problems with production equipment and machinery
  • Maintains material handling equipment
  • Assists the Production Manager in monitoring and supervising the work of local subcontractors
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years industrial maintenance experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of building maintenance and repair practices; including effective safety practices, standards and techniques pertaining to industrial maintenance operations.
  • Considerable knowledge of HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems preferred.
  • Ability to develop and adhere to schedules; concurrently handle a wide variety of projects; communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate in a precise and professional manner at all levels and to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical/Computer Skills

Ability to apply mathematical principles to determine quantities, timelines, operational requirements, deadlines and workforce requirements. This position requires a working knowledge and ability with regards to computer use and applications. This would include the use of the Internet, Company E-Mail, Word, Excel and other Windows applications, the Landport maintenance system.


Reasoning Ability


Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


Other Skills


Must be able to provide excellent customer service to diverse groups; must have problem solving and decision making ability.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  • Forklift
  • Must possess and maintain current Virginia Master Electrician Certification
  • Must have a valid Virginia State driver’s license and be able to provide proof of insurance as position may be required to work in the field.
  • Additionally, 3+ point DMV record required to drive company vehicle.
