Job Summary
The Entry Level Zip sort Operator is responsible for learning all basic functions that pertain to sorting and preparing outgoing mail for postal delivery. This associate will progress towards maintaining all productivity and quality standards while achieving the USPS mailing requirements. An Entry Level Zip sort Operator prepares the outgoing mail by reviewing the mail for proper date, postage, and quality bar-codes.

Essential Job Functions
Performing General Physical Activities – Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs.

  • Consistently lifting 15-30 lbs.
  • The ability to handle materials by pushing/pulling APC’s and completed pallets
  • Removing full mail trays from the APC’s to sorting belt
  • Flipping mail trays
  • Sweeping mail from bins
  • Placing full trays on conveyor belt
  • Applying sleeves to completed mail trays
  • Stacking completed mail trays.

Controlling Machines and Processes – Using control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes.

  • Setting up sorting machines for each cycle
  • Operating brander and stretch wrappers
  • Manoeuvring full APC’s of mail
  • Navigating full pallets of mail with pallet jacks
  • Operating hand scanners

Interacting with Computers/ Documenting/ Recording Information – Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to set up functions or process information.

  • Printing tray labels
  • Basic Windows and MS Office such as checking e-mails and using the company website to take required classes and to access company information.

Basic Quality Checks – Ensuring that each machine is set up properly.

  • Mail placed in the correct trays
  • Ensuring tray labels are correct
  • Replacing torn label holders
  • Placing coloured flags in the appropriate trays
  • Placing trays in the correct APC
  • Ensuring that each completed mail tray is placed on the correct pallet

Communicating with Supervisors, Workflow Coordinator, and Peers – Providing information to supervisors, workflow coordinator, and peers in written form, e-mail, telephone, or in person.

Preferred Education/Certifications
High School Diploma or GED
Preferred Work Experience
No previous experience required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Basic Windows and MS Office skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent attention to detail
Excellent time management and prioritisation skills
Working Conditions/ Physical Requirements
The ability to walk, stand, stoop, and bend 80% of the time with or without accommodation
The ability to work in a fast paced environment
The ability to lift up to 15-30 lbs. with or without accommodation
The ability to read, understand, and follow verbal and/or written instructions
Availability to work additional hours occasionally and with little to no advance notice

Standard Background Check Items

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour
