DESCRIPTION:

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Program hourly editorial news content, show flow and stacking elements in the rundown.
  • Assign and run a team of highly focused writers, associate producers and digital associates to create original content as well as edit and repurpose content from broadcast and other content partners.
  • Work closely with Executive Producer & Supervising Producer in a fast-paced, high pressure environment and handle breaking news for a 24 hour digital news channel
  • Lines and editorially stacks the live show in the newsroom;
  • Reads in on news of day and relevant events of day;
  • Distributes assignments to team of Producers and Digital Associates;
  • Coordinates with Senior Producer, Managing Editor, and Senior Executive Producer to manage news of day demands;
  • Writes teases, headlines opening package, and readers for live programming;
  • Generates story ideas for future coverage;
  • Executes live show in control room;
  • Assigns and records swap content for automated software wheel;
  • Stakes out and takes newsworthy live events in control room;
  • Communicates with anchor and control room team to navigate through day’s needs;
  • Mentors junior writers;
  • Follows and works with sales to implement proper ad loads in rundowns; and may also perform the responsibilities of Content Producers, Producers, Associate Producers, Associate Video Producers; and Digital Associates.
  • Available for early morning, nights, weekends, holidays - this is a 24-hour network

QUALIFICATIONS:

What you bring to the team:

You have -

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3-5 years experience writing copy for network, cable and/or local TV news in a major market
  • Solid background in journalism and TV, including strong news judgment & critical thinking skills
  • Impeccable grammar and spelling
  • Experience in writing daily news and feature taped packages
  • A passion for news
  • Strong communication skills and ability to train and advise associate producers, production assistants and junior staff in writing and editing broadcast copy.
  • Superior news judgment
  • Command of AP style and broadcast writing.
  • Must be very detail oriented with ability to work and write calmly and efficiently in high stress, intense deadline, live TV environment
  • Must pass comprehensive CBS News Digital writing test.
  • Be able to multi-task and manage multiple assignments for regular programming as well as rolling breaking news coverage.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience as a producer for cable, broadcast or digital programming
  • Deep understanding for editorial content, including control room experience, strong writing and copyediting skills.
  • ENPS knowledge a must.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment, deal with intense deadline pressure and continually react to breaking news with smart programming and creative storytelling.
  • Understanding of digital newsgathering and experience with social media platforms.
  • Able to write and cut a network-level tape package.
  • Able to shoot video, interviews and basic editing skills—preferably AVID.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with Senior Producers and across platforms with content partners
  • Must be knowledgeable about social media and the competitive digital news environment
  • Strong communication, assignment and delegation skills.
  • Available for early morning, nights, weekends, holidays - this is a 24-hour network
  • You must be a team player with, be detail-oriented, and have the ability to multi-task
