We have been lighting the path forward into Recovery by providing person-centered services to those with behavioral health needs and developmental disabilities so that they may reach their fullest potential in health and wellness since 2004. Along with traditional clinic services, such as evaluation, therapy, and medication management, several various other services are provided through contract providers, such as respite care, case management, crisis intervention, in-home therapy, vocational training, housing supports, etc. In addition to community-based out-patient services, FPHSA has two inpatient substance abuse treatment programs, Fontainebleau Treatment Center (FTC) and the Alcohol Drug Unit (ADU). FPHSA serves both adults and children who meet the treatment criteria for services in the areas of substance abuse disorders, developmental disabilities, and/or mental health.

This vacancy will be filled as a Part-Time PRN (WAE) position ONLY!!

This is a professional practical nursing position providing specialized treatment and care of persons with serious mental illness in the FPHSA Behavioral Health Clinics in both Tangipahoa & Livingston Parishes. Performs individualized direct client care that requires training and competence as well as the good clinical judgment necessary to assess, plan, and implement appropriate nursing interventions as needed. This position reports directly to the Registered Nurse Supervisor A and may receive functional supervision from the MH Clinic Manager, Physician, and/or Prescribing Specialist. Work is performed in accordance with established procedures, rules, regulations, and policies of the agency and within the guidelines of the States' Nurse Practice Act. The incumbent is required to maintain either a Louisiana practical nursing license or a multistate license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) to practice practical nursing in Louisiana.

No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.
Our agency has set the minimum starting salary for these positions at $17.00/hour. Starting salary may be increased based on the applicant’s level of experience.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Possession of a temporary permit, license or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) to practice practical nursing in Louisiana, plus one year of practical nursing experience.

Examples of Work

  • The nurse is responsible for the delivery of therapeutic doses of prescribed psychotropic medication for the treatment of behavioral health disorders.
  • Administration of medications, including injections, as well as observance of self-administration for educational purposes.
  • Pick-ups - Coordination of medication pickups from the FPSHA Pharmacy
  • Prescriptions - Coordination and handling of written prescriptions for medications to be filled at community pharmacy Maintains interim supply of medications in the clinic, which requires monthly inventory, ordering medications and supplies from the pharmacy, receiving, processing, organizing, storing and maintaining clean, clearly labeled medications in locked cabinets. Responsible for processing all orders for medication to and from the pharmacy for all new and current clients. Medication orders are received, organized, stored, and maintained in a locked room separate from interim supply.
  • The nurse is responsible for the ongoing review of the efficacy of the psychotropic medication interventions.
  • The nurse participates as a part of the treatment team in assessment, treatment planning, and discharge planning. Provides consultation and serves as a resource to team members in providing information, problem solving, and teaching relevant procedures. Presents cases to supervisor or psychiatrist regarding appropriateness of treatment. Actively participates in staff meetings and case reviews providing clients with continuity of care within the clinic and the community service delivery system. Works with clients, families, and outside agencies, as well as with the treatment team to set client goals, develop individualized treatment plans, and explore community resources to facilitate recovery. Arranges and obtains referral material from such sources as mental health clinics, private psychiatrists, juvenile court systems, coroners, correctional systems, schools, hospitals, group homes, private therapy agencies, etc., as appropriate.
  • The nurse is responsible for ongoing assessment resulting in the development and reinforcement of an effective psychotropic medication regimen that supports medication compliance and recovery.
  • Provides crisis assessments, develops, and executes crisis plans as needed and consults with and makes referrals to the treating prescriber as warranted. Arranges for hospitalizations for clients who have been assessed and deemed in need of a Physician's Emergency Commitment (PEC). Coordinates wrap-around services (respite placement, etc) as needed.
