Job Description

Stanford University is seeking a LGBTQ+ Digital Health Research Infrastructure Specialist (IT Business Analyst 2) to join The PRIDE Study team to specify and/or design solutions for business information systems and incorporate new technical systems to improve workflow, production, efficiency, and effectiveness. This position will serve as the project lead working in very close collaboration with The PRIDE Study’s co-directors, the Participant Engagement Director, and research coordinators.


The PRIDE Study is a national, online, longitudinal cohort study of LGBTQ+ adults. Participants interact with The PRIDE Study via a custom-built digital research platform hosted on Google Cloud Platform utilizing MySQL and NoSQL databases and several integrations with IaaS and SaaS solutions including Sendgrid (transactional e-mails), Twilio (text message), Zendesk (help/support tickets), SmartyStreets (address geocoding), MailChimp (e-mail campaigns), Google Analytics (site analytics), Pingdom (site uptime monitoring), Sentry, and many others.


The PRIDE Study continually innovates and iterates the digital research platform to improve the participant experience, participant retention, data collection, and data accuracy. With input/feedback with various team members, the incumbent will propose changes to the digital research platform; develop accurate, detailed business, functional, and system requirements describing the changes; liaise with trusted software development vendor to design, implement, and test the changes; and study effect of those changes. In addition, the incumbent will work closely with the Participant Engagement Director, research coordinators, and participants to identify and re-create software bugs needing remediation and testing. In all work, the incumbent will know and implement system modifications in compliance with relevant data security best practices for protected health information (PHI) and technology-based laws including text message opt-in, e-mail mailing lists management, etc.


The incumbent will be able to continually study areas related to participant experience, participant retention, data collection, and data accuracy using available data in conjunction with collaborative relationships with PRIDE’s research team and Participant Engagement Director. Additional duties for the incumbent include (but are not limited to): training team members on new research platform features and SaaS solutions, prepare and analyze data sets of study data and of site analytics, editing/updating current SaaS solutions to adjust with PRIDE’s changing needs, and maintain PRIDE’s hardware inventory.


Duties include:

  • Translate business processes into system requirements and/or development of systems solutions.
  • Analyze new business requirements, assist with feasibility of enhancement requests, system functionality, current system use and user needs.
  • Specify functional analysis and design and work with developers and analysts to recommend solutions and resolve system issues.
  • Review, research and evaluate software to determine its usefulness and appropriateness as related to existing or proposed business systems; assist or develop preliminary and detailed system design documentation.
  • Perform testing of new systems, upgrades and patching of existing systems; plan, conduct and document results of testing.
  • Develop instructional materials, training, and job aids.
  • Advise users requiring assistance in solving complex problems or issues regarding management and business systems.
  • Analyze data and provide data sets to users for analysis. May include development of operational and analytical reports for end users.
  • Liaise with external vendors or partners in support of business systems, which may include system development, implementation and/or operations.
  • Coordinate the implementation of new or modified business systems.
  • Manage PRIDE’s hardware inventory.
  • Ensure IT regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain/edit existing software-as-a-service (SaaS) systems.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor's degree and five years relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Knowledge of, computer system capabilities, business processes, and work flow.
  • Experience with enterprise applications and understanding of database driven applications.
  • Strong understanding of the software development life cycle.
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques used in conducting management studies and in systems analysis.
  • Current knowledge of rapidly changing computer technology.
