Position Summary

The UNM-Taos Math and Sciences Department is looking for a 9-month, full-time instructor to join our faculty. The successful candidate will be expected to assume a full workload (12 credit hours per semester plus 3 additional credit hour equivalence of course reassignment for a combination of service and professional development and other duties as assigned) in Mathematics or other credentialed discipline. The candidate will be required to keep regular Math MaLL (tutoring lab) and office hours each week (5-6), and other academic duties including:

  • Committee and task force assignments
  • Professional development activities
  • Curricular and program development and coordination
  • Advise and supervise students and faculty
  • Administrative duties as necessary

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must have a minimum of a Master’s Degree in the discipline or subfield in which they are applying to teach, with coursework at least one level above that of the courses being taught or developed (e.g., completed a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline or subfield in which they teach or tested experience that is determined to be equivalent to the degree).
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in Mathematics or related field
  • Teaching experience in a post-secondary institution
  • Proficiency in teaching in a community college environment
  • Experience in curriculum innovation for diverse learning styles
  • Experience in developing courses and teaching in an on-line environment.
  • Commitment to being part of a Professional Learning Community
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities, particularly Hispanic Serving Institutions.
  • Experience and success in teaching students from diverse ethnic, cultural and linguistic backgrounds (preferably Southwestern)
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students at a variety of academic levels
  • Experience in academic advising and mentoring, including working with student groups
  • Ability to teach a subject outside of Math
