Lead Preschool Teacher

Willowwind School, an independent preschool through sixth-grade school in Iowa City, is seeking a Lead Teacher for its Montessori Preschool Program. The Lead Montessori Preschool Teacher is responsible for working with students, ages 3-5. Must be dependable, responsible, innovative, have an excellent rapport with children, and inspire a love for learning.

• observe, guide, supervise, and assess children while they learn in the classroom environment
• develop lesson plans and units that cater to the needs of the individual child
• create and maintain a safe, clean, stimulating classroom where all children feel safe and valued
• build relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and community members based on trust
• set an excellent example for students instilling honesty, understanding, respect, love, and kindness
• monitor and assess student progress and write student progress reports
• share progress results and parent / teacher conferences and as needed throughout the year
• participate in various school events, activities, and field trips
• collaborate with PreK, K-6, Specials teaching teams to facilitate successful learning opportunities

• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education or a related field is recommended
• Montessori license is preferred but can also be achieved in the first year of employment
• passionate about alternative education philosophies and early childhood education
• an ability to meet the needs of students of varying ages, needs, and abilities
• excellent planning and organizational skills
• a lifelong learner who will serve as a positive role model for children
