Job Description

Assurant has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Accountant – Reinsurance Solutions!

This individual will work remotely temporarily due to COVID-19.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the month/quarter end close process

  • Prepare and assist in the completion of complex reinsurance statements and reinsurance financial deliverables

  • Prepare detailed monthly and quarterly journal entries and account analysis

  • Prepare account reconciliations and reasonableness reviews and perform follow up activities for pending items

  • Prepare analytics explaining significant variances on various financial statements

  • Ensure compliance with internal control policies in a SOX and MAR environment

  • Prepare schedules for quarterly and year end reviews

  • Ensure team meets all deadlines and deliverable in a timely and accurate manner

  • Work with other departments such as Shares Services, Financial Reporting and Tax to ensure overall coordination of financial accounting activities

  • Participate in/ lead planning and implementation of accounting work relating to projects and ad-hoc assignments

  • Lead and/or supports strategic and work projects as appropriate

  • Develop and maintain relations with clients, business segments and stakeholders

  • Take on assignments new to Reinsurance and apply experience to propose practice and procedure. Identify and communicate areas of inconsistency, offer alternative solutions for improvement in quality and process.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • 3-5 years general accounting experience, preferably accounting firm experience

  • CPA certified a plus

  • Understanding of progressive accounting practices and procedures.

  • In depth knowledge of financial and regulatory requirements (i.e. MAR, SOX, GAAP, audits).

  • Knowledge of Captive or Facultative reinsurance a plus

Experience:

  • Demonstrates strong analytical and research skills

  • Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills

  • Good organizational skills

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, V-look ups, Marcos, etc.

  • Good functional knowledge of SQL

  • Detail oriented and able to work independently

  • Ability to multitask and set priorities to meet deadlines

  • Team oriented and able to adapt to a flexible work environment

  • Ability to work extended hours when needed
