Job Description
The Laboratory Clerk is responsible for all relevant office tasks related to slide send-outs and receiving, information and slide requests, accessioning as needed, consults, interactions with patients and clients over the phone, inventory and supplies send out, and all other requests the Anatomic Pathology Manager may assign that assist with the efficient running of the laboratory.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities:
  • Ensures that all accessioning performed under his/her supervision is according to established, approved procedures and quality control policies.
  • Assists with the accessioning of all Pathology and Cytology specimens with proper verification of specimen and requisition information - as needed.
  • Retrieves missing/incorrect information.
  • Answers phones, emails, flags, and receives/sends faxes.
  • Prepares slides for mailing for Pathologist/Patients/Medical Records-as needed.
  • Assists Pathologist by pulling slides for review.
  • Assists outside institutions and Patients with slide requests.
  • Assists with requests from within Westmed Medical Group. (eg.: Legal and Pre-Surgery).
  • Retrieves Westmed slides within the 90 day release time.
  • Returns outside slides received from outside institutions in a timely fashion.
  • Orders and is maintain laboratory inventory.
  • Prepares/distributes supplies for the practices.
  • Assists with Formalin dumping and alcohol disposal as needed.
  • Handles consult case. Makes sure the proper slides are sent and received.
  • Complies with all WMG policies and OSHA regulations related to safely, cleanliness and infection control.
  • Performs other ancillary duties as directed by competent authority.

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Degree and equivalent.
  • Broad knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to deal with confidential information with the utmost discretion. Interpersonal skill necessary to deal courteously and effectively with administration, peers and the public.
  • Sufficient technical ability to be able to troubleshoot independently and knowledge to know when to know when to ask for assistance.
