In support of The Ohio State University’s Research and Innovation activities, the selected candidate will work within Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge (ERIK) supporting the University Laboratory Animal Resources (ULAR) mission of providing humane animal care and facilitating biomedical research discoveries.

The Laboratory Animal Technician 2 will work in coordination with an area Suite Coordinator and Team Leaders working as a team member to complete humane animal care and facility needs; maintains record systems and inventory of animals in eprotocol and RFID systems, including transfers and animal order needs, helps team feed and water animals as required by standard operating procedures for species; observes and reports abnormal conditions; prepares special diets; performs rounds of animal facilities; within assigned team area maintains sanitation of animal housing and research areas; performs sterilization, disinfection, pest control; generates and/or maintains record keeping systems for animal care, does tree cards and census to track treatment and service needs; tracks and maintains inventories of equipment, instruments and supplies for designated area. Performs cagewash functions per facility needs as required. Position requires successful completion of a background check and employee health physical.


Experience and Qualifications:

Required:

Per Classified Civil Svc Classification Specifications, High school diploma or equivalent certificate; one (1) year work experience providing direct care for animals in a program setting or facility; six (6) months supervisory experience.

Desired:

Current AALAS registration as Laboratory Animal Technician or certification.
