The Key Account Manager Academic Sales will be responsible for achieving product sales to new and established national/key accounts to achieve sales objectives and greater market penetration. This job is eligible for sales incentives/sales commissions.


Creates a tactical plan to achieve objectives through the sales and servicing of large national/key accounts within a prescribed territory. Contacts and makes preplanned sales presentations to customers. Makes regular visits to customer locations to gather information on orders and market conditions. Develops customer and product focused presentation packages for sales. Prepares sales reports and documents as required. Follows up with customers to ensure satisfaction.


Main areas of responsibility

  • Must manage a budget for Travel and Expenses as well as manage a budget for the territory. All other consigned lenses, trunk stock, literature, and surgical equipment will be the responsibility of the KAE to manage the assets appropriately.
  • Achieve assigned sales goals and MBO’s through creative, consultative selling and implementation of the U.S. marketing plans for all disposable, capital, and other surgical and non-surgical products.
  • Call on Ophthalmology residents, facility and staff within target facilities within the assigned geographic territory to grow the market share of that area, as well as to maintain the current base of business.
  • Build relationships in targeted programs with appropriate stakeholders, including department chair people and KOLs
  • Implement education programs at targeted programs
  • Work with all incoming residents in surgery to educate them on all J&J Surgical Vision products and various ophthalmic surgical techniques
  • Comply with required reports and requests, effectively manage Johnson & Johnson field assets to include consigned products, surgical instruments, surgical equipment, sales force automation, ancillary items, and operates territory within budgetary guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university.
  • 7 years of professional medical device selling experience is preferred
  • 5 years of operating room selling experience required (ophthalmic surgery preferred)
  • The ability to work independently, as well as part of a team and support company goals and sales objectives is required.
  • The ability to travel (up to 50%), which may include overnight / weekend travel is required.
  • A valid driver's license in one of the 50 United States is required.
