The Malheur County Circuit Court is hiring a Juvenile Clerk to assist in courtroom support and operations.


As a Juvenile Clerk…

Much of your day is spent overseeing difficult case management issues and reviewing cases for appropriate action to ensure compliance. This includes proofreading, verifying scanned documents, processing pleadings and documents, inputting case data in the computer system, and preparing complex orders and judgments for the judge’s signature. You will also coordinate Juvenile Court Improvement Program meeting and the scheduling of juvenile cases.

Customer service will be part of your duties. You will assist the public at the counter and on the phone by answering questions and supplying forms for cases. You will also aid in applications for court-appointed counsel by interviewing debtors to obtain financial information and contribution amounts.

While in the courtroom, you will attend juvenile hearings, monitor recording equipment of all court proceedings, log cases, update case minutes, and perform data entry in real time.

Working Conditions

  • This is a full-time position. The work schedule currently is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. It is eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 per work week.
  • Occasional after-hours or overtime work may be required.
  • Occasional local and overnight travel may be required for trainings and meetings.
  • Regular interaction with inmates, attorneys, judges and government employees by telephone, in person and video.
  • Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Frequent phone and in-person contact with people who may at times be angry, hostile, confused, or frustrated.
  • Frequent use of the following equipment: telephone, personal computer with multiple monitors, copy machine, fax machine, and scanner.
  • Long periods of sitting, standing, frequent bending or reaching below knee level or above shoulder level.

Minimum Qualifications

The qualified applicant must have at least two (2) years of responsible, clerical experience in a moderately complex office or business setting involving the processing of financial, administrative, or legal documents.
AND
Possession of a high school diploma or GED, or equivalent life or work experience.
OR
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to three (3) years that supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
